Benny Blanco just spilled some seriously awkward tea about his and Selena Gomez’s first kiss, and apparently, it wasn’t all fireworks. During their appearance on the “Table Manners” podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Benny recalled the unexpected reaction Selena had right after he kissed her for the first time. Spoiler: it included a rash and a racing heart.
Blanco shared that the moment happened while they were chilling on the couch, playing the card game We’re Not Really Strangers. One of the prompts said to take a selfie with the person next to you, so Gomez cozied up and snapped a pic while lying on his chest. That’s when Blanco decided to go in for the kiss, and that’s when things got weird.
“She was, like, allergic to me,” he joked, saying her face got all red and her heart started pounding. He even called himself “so disgusting and repulsive.” But Selena was quick to clarify that she wasn’t allergic, just incredibly nervous. She admitted she hadn’t really “liked anyone in a very long time,” and that made it all feel super intense.
Gomez explained that while some kisses don’t mean much, this one actually hit her hard. She had been single for about five years, aside from a few “sh*tty dates,” and wasn’t expecting to feel something real. That left her kind of embarrassed, but clearly something clicked, because look at them now.
The couple had known each other for years but only started dating in June 2023. They kept things private for a while before confirming their relationship six months later. And in a full-circle moment straight out of a rom-com, Benny proposed exactly a year after going public, with a custom marquise diamond ring that gave a nod to their 2015 collab “Good For You.”
Blanco teamed up with jewelry designers Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos of Abril Barret to create the one-of-a-kind piece. The ring features a marquise center stone set in a cathedral design with a brilliant-cut eternity band. So yeah, their love story went from awkward rash to luxury sparkle real quick.
