Jennifer Aniston had a terrifying close call this week when a man allegedly rammed his car straight through the gates of her Bel Air mansion while she was home.
The Friends star, known around the world as Rachel Green, was inside the house at the time of the incident, which took place just after midday on Monday, May 5, 2025. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the suspect, reportedly a 70-year-old man, drove his vehicle into the gate and managed to gain access to the property.
A security guard on-site immediately stepped in and detained the man until police arrived. Thankfully, the situation was brought under control without further incident. “There was a security guard on premises who was able to detain that suspect until officers arrived, at which time they took him into custody without incident,” an LAPD public information officer confirmed to PEOPLE. They also stated that Aniston was home at the time, but was unharmed.
The suspect sustained minor injuries from the crash but no one else was hurt. Authorities are still deciding on the exact charges, though felony vandalism is on the table. Police sources told ABC News that the crash did not appear to be accidental, but there is also no indication that the driver was specifically targeting Jennifer Aniston. He does have a minor criminal history, but nothing that previously linked him to Aniston in any way.
It’s a chilling reminder that even the most private celebrity estates aren’t immune from unexpected security scares. Aniston, who rose to fame in the ’90s as part of the iconic Friends cast, has always been relatively low-key about her personal life. She’s often recognized for her role as Rachel in the most surprising places, even once admitting she was spotted by a fan while completely naked in a spa.
She told Travel + Leisure that the most awkward moment she’s ever been recognized was in a steam room: “Not surprising, but I’ve been in vulnerable places, like undressed in a steam room, or in a sauna or some sort of a spa either half-covered or completely naked.”
While this week’s incident had nothing to do with fandom, it still serves as a reminder of the constant scrutiny and strange encounters that come with being one of the world’s most famous faces. Thankfully, this scare ended without harm, but it definitely shook up the usual peace in Bel Air.
