Joe Jonas Gets Candid About Screen Time, Fatherhood, and Finding Balance

Joe Jonas is just like the rest of us, totally glued to his phone. The 35-year-old singer recently admitted he’s “chronically online” and has a bad habit of falling into endless scrolling sessions. But during a recent performance of his new single, Heart by Heart, in New York City, Joe got a rare chance to break that cycle, and honestly, he loved it.

The show had a no-phone policy, which meant fans were fully present, no screens in the way, just raw energy. And for Joe, that was a huge deal. “It’s been a while, actually, the last time I performed with no phones, I honestly couldn’t tell you,” he told People. He even compared the experience to being at the Masters this year, where phones are banned altogether. At first, the lack of digital connection had him feeling antsy, but he quickly realized how freeing it was. “You’re panicked sometimes, at least I am. And then you get back, and you’re like, “Okay, I’m fine, the world is still revolving, everyone was fine’.”

That perspective hit hard. Joe admits he’s guilty of falling into what he calls a “death scroll,” but the phone-free show was a reminder that unplugging every once in a while is actually good for the soul. “This is a nice reminder to just be present with your friends and family,” he said. “You can shut your phone off for a few hours and hang out.”

Outside of his screen time habits, Joe has been focusing on another major role in his life: being a dad. He shares two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with his ex-wife Sophie Turner and says fatherhood has brought a whole new kind of joy. “As a parent myself, I’m also reliving childhood again through my kids’ eyes, which is just the best feeling,” he shared during a talk at Miami Art Week’s Wellness Oasis.

Joe, who was married to Sophie from 2019 to 2024, says he’s trying to stay grounded and have fun with where life is taking him. “I’m really making sure that I’m able to have a lot of fun,” he said. Whether it’s parenting, performing, or trying to log off from his screen habit, Joe’s just figuring it all out in real time, just like the rest of us.

So yeah, Joe Jonas may be chronically online, but he’s also doing his best to be present, unplug, and embrace the chaos of modern life, with or without a phone in hand.
