Katie Maloney slams the Vanderpump Rules reboot, and she’s not holding back.
The 38-year-old reality star didn’t mince words when she appeared on the Detox Retox podcast, where she gave her two cents on Bravo’s latest attempt to revive the Vanderpump Rules franchise with a whole new cast. While she made it clear she’s not throwing shade at the newcomers personally, Katie said the reboot “feels cheap” and lacks the authenticity that made the original series a hit.
“This isn’t against any of [the new cast],” Katie explained. “I don’t know them, but it just feels cheap to me. It feels cheap, and I don’t like cheap.” Ouch. That’s coming from someone who helped make the show a pop culture staple for over a decade.
She went further, saying the new version should’ve been branded as a completely different series. “With the same name [but] a different show,” she said. “There’s not even a season one. To me, it just feels like it’s going to try to have the same flavor and the same everything.”
Katie’s criticism isn’t just random bitterness either. She left Vanderpump Rules by choice, long before Bravo decided to bring in a fresh cast. Back in December 2024, on the Disrespectfully podcast, she explained that she had already made peace with leaving. “I needed to move on with my life,” she said. “I felt like my life and where I was at were moving in a different direction.” She was emotionally and spiritually done, ready to step away from the drama and start a new chapter.
Meanwhile, Lisa Vanderpump is keeping things optimistic. In a recent chat with E! News, she admitted the show needed a refresh. “Not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules,” she said, promising it would have a “different energy” while still focusing on the drama of working in restaurants. Lisa says it was just time: the old stories had wrapped up, and something new needed to take their place.
But Katie? Not buying it. Even if it’s not personal, her blunt honesty hits home for fans who grew up with the original cast and aren’t sure if they’re ready to hit the reset button. As for the reboot, we’ll see if it can win people over, or if Katie’s words end up being the warning no one listened to.
