Kesha just dropped a bombshell: she was secretly engaged, but called it off after one brutally honest songwriting session.
In a candid interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, the 38-year-old singer revealed that she was preparing for marriage when she realized, mid-lyric, that it just wasn’t what she wanted.
“Basically, I find that writing songs leads me to my truth,” she said. “I was engaged and I didn’t wanna be anymore and I didn’t even realize that I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it.”
That moment of musical clarity hit hard. “I listened back to it, and I was like, ‘Oh, no, I’m gonna break up with him now.’” She added that you can’t lie in a song, if you do, “your song will suck.”
Kesha has long been open about her emotionally raw songwriting, but this may be the most personal revelation yet. While she didn’t name names, the pop star has previously been linked to Brad Ashenfelter (whom she dated from 2014 and was last seen with in 2021), as well as Michael Gilvary and Riccardo Maddalosso. This mystery fiancé, however, remained completely under the radar, until now.
The ‘Rainbow‘ hitmaker also shared her love for songwriting retreats, describing them as deep emotional workshops where music becomes therapy. “I get down to what is going on with them, for real though. Behind the mask, behind your titles… how do you feel?”
But don’t think Kesha is crying into her glitter. She’s fully embracing her single era, with a wishlist that includes yachts and first-class flights. Speaking to On the Red Carpet, she openly declared, “I am looking for a sugar daddy.”
“I’ve explored non-monogamy,” she said. “I’ve been in love with many, many men and many, many women. But now? I’m just into someone taking care of me.”
She’s ditching the starving artist romance for something a little more luxurious. “I’ve dated a lot of very cool, very broke hipsters with very bad attitudes, and so I’m trying to swing the pendulum 180 degrees… I want someone that goes to an office building because they own the office building.”
From engagement to self-empowerment (and maybe a yacht), Kesha’s journey is anything but boring. And as always, she’s writing her own rules.
