Lindsay Lohan Only Picks Roles Her Toddler Would Approve

Lindsay Lohan is putting motherhood front and center in her career decisions these days.

The 38-year-old actress, who shares a two-year-old son, Luai, with husband Bader Shammas, made it clear she’s not signing onto anything that doesn’t fit around her family. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, she said, “Everything I do is what’s going to work for my family… If it doesn’t, it’s a no-go.”

Her return to the spotlight in Netflix projects like Irish Wish and Our Little Secret wasn’t random, it was all part of what she describes as manifestation. During the COVID years, she had a vision: she wanted to work with both Netflix and Disney again. And that’s exactly what happened. Now she’s gearing up to reunite with Jamie Lee Curtis for the long-awaited Freaky Friday sequel, which she says just felt “meant to happen.”

The timing of this project is especially meaningful. In the original 2003 film, Lindsay played teen rebel Anna Coleman, who swaps bodies with her strict mom Tess, played by Jamie. Now, in the sequel, Anna’s all grown up and switches places with her own daughter, Harper (played by Julia Butters). Being a mom herself now gives Lindsay a totally different perspective on the role.

She admits she didn’t understand the depth of that mother-daughter connection back when she was just 17. But now? Totally different story. “The bond you have with your child… how irreplaceable that is… that’s everything,” she said. She also pointed out how motherhood has taught her to stay calm in the chaos, something she didn’t have when she first played Anna. “Now I get to play with that,” she said. “I get to have those moments Tess had with Anna.”

Jamie Lee Curtis, now 66, also reflected on their full-circle moment. “I’ve known Lindsay since she was 15,” she said. “It’s extraordinary to watch someone walk through life.” Their reunion feels like a family moment for fans too, one that’s been years in the making.

Lohan’s comeback isn’t just about career ambition; it’s about creating stories that resonate with where she is in life now. And if it doesn’t align with her values as a mom, she’s not interested. That’s the new rule.
