The pair, who met on the reality TV show during the third season of the Netflix dating series, shared four years as a married couple. However, all the warning signs about their relationship were written on the wall from the very beginning.

The Love is Blind Contestants Weren’t Emotionally Ready For a Serious Relationship
Both Matt Bolton and Colleen Reed weren’t emotionally ready for any kind of romantic relationship, as revealed in the pods. In Matt’s case, he was dealing with severe trust issues that he hadn’t worked out yet, following his last relationship in which his girlfriend cheated on him.
While it’s understandable that Matt was insecure and upset about the betrayal from his former relationship, he was ready to dive in head first into a new relationship with Colleen, without taking the time to unpack his negative emotions in a healthy way. Instead, he used his relationship with Colleen as a bandaid, which did little to ease his doubt.
As for Colleen, she revealed in the pods that she’s uncomfortable with expressing her emotions and doesn’t like relationship dynamics that involve vulnerability. Instead, she has a preference for keeping her romantic bonds light and fun, without getting into the hard stuff that makes us human. While there’s nothing wrong with preferring a more carefree and easy-going relationship, it’s concerning that Colleen is repelled by the prospect of their dynamic reaching deeper depths. After all, relationships, let alone marriages that lack emotional sustenance will never stand the test of time.
With Matt’s unresolved trust issues and Colleen’s repellence to vulnerability, their relationship was a clear recipe for disaster from the very beginning.

During the third season of Love is Blind, fans of the show expressed major concern over Colleen and Matt’s dysfunctional relationship. A misunderstanding between the couple resulted in Matt flying into a jealous rage. His treatment of Colleen came from a place of deep-rooted insecurity due to his trust issues that derived from his previous relationship. Yet it was unfair of Matt to take his misplaced anger out on Colleen, who’d done nothing to disprove his trust.

The way he just completely flips out, going from 0-100 with no warning is insane. He’s constantly “done” with Colleen and with the relationship.” They continued, adding, “The man needs a therapist. Not a wife.”

In their joint divorce announcement, the pair shared that they’ve been separated for some time now, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise to fans since they haven’t been seen together in some time via social media. In the personal statement, which both shared on Instagram, the couple wrote: “We wanted to share something personal, and this is not easy to do, but after nearly four years together, we’ve decided to end our marriage and move forward on our own paths.” They continued, adding, “We’ve been separated for some time now and have been doing our best to work through everything privately and with care.”
