Megan Thee Stallion wasn’t about to let a phone ban ruin her Met Gala night.
Dressed in a custom silver sequin gown with a snowy white fur coat, the rapper brought a little rebellious sparkle to fashion’s most elite event. She pulled out her phone, hit record, and told the world exactly what she was doing, “We’re not supposed to have our phones, but we’re doing it!”
Yup, she snuck it in. And the best part? She wasn’t alone. Tracee Ellis Ross popped into frame, fully aware they were breaking the rules, adding, “We’re not supposed to have our phones. But, we’re doing it!” It was giving backstage chaos, not red carpet glam, and fans loved every second of it.
Also tagging along in the clip were singer Doechii and basketball star Angel Reese, and what started as a rule-break turned into a mini Met Gala food review. Megan was into the cornbread and caviar, saying it was “good,” but side-eyed the vegan smoked salmon for looking a little “funny.” Doechii wasn’t feeling the truffle cheese, and Angel declared the chicken curry pastries “a little dry.” Even fashion royalty can’t make everyone love the appetizers.
This cheeky defiance goes against Anna Wintour’s well-known ban on phones inside the event. Her reason? She wants people to talk to each other, not scroll. “It’s often wonderful to hear, after dinner, people say, ‘Oh, we had the most wonderful conversations,’” she said during a Today interview. Sure, but let’s be honest, Megan’s TikTok is probably getting more views than most of those convos ever will.
And that’s not the only thing Anna’s strict about. She’s famously banned chives, onions, and garlic from Met Gala meals just because she personally doesn’t like them. So if you’re hoping for some extra flavor at the most glamorous party of the year… tough luck.
Still, Megan’s little act of rebellion brought the internet a rare peek inside the ultra-private world of the Met Gala. And let’s face it, it was more entertaining than a hundred stiff red carpet interviews.
