Ridley Scott has confirmed he’s gearing up to direct a Bee Gees biopic, with filming set to kick off in November 2025.
At 87, the legendary director isn’t slowing down and is ready to bring the story of one of music’s most iconic sibling groups to the big screen.
Speaking to Collider, Scott revealed that the movie is officially in motion and will be produced by Paramount Pictures. He said, “I am… the Bee Gees in November. I think so. That’s what I dare say.” While still tentative, the schedule is looking solid, with pre-production already underway.
The film will follow the Bee Gees-Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb-from their early years to their rise to global fame. Scott is diving deep into the group’s family dynamic, their close bond, and the musical legacy they left behind. “It’s really about the brothers and how close the brothers were as a gifted family,” Scott said. “Barry very much was the leader of them, but then Robin also had the voice initially and was also a very good writer. They were a fulfilled team.”
Fans can expect the film to chart the brothers’ journey from childhood through to their incredible influence on the disco era, especially thanks to their legendary soundtrack for the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. The soundtrack catapulted the Bee Gees into music history and became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
The film will also touch on the emotional losses of Maurice and his twin Robin, leaving Barry as the last surviving Gibb brother. Scott said the movie will span decades: “We’ll go from eight years old to the end.”
As for casting, Scott has begun the process but is keeping names under wraps. “I’ve already got my footprints and handprints, or requests is a better way of putting it, on those names. And no, I can’t say who they are,” he teased.
Aside from the Bee Gees project, Scott is also eyeing other genres. He shared that he recently acquired the rights to a Western script he described as “the best Western I’ve ever read.” It was discovered in the estate of a late author and is now under Scott’s ownership. “The moment will come to make it,” he added.
Scott isn’t done yet. He still has his sights on directing a musical and a pirate movie. It’s clear that even in his late 80s, his creative ambition remains strong. With the Bee Gees biopic now in motion, fans can look forward to a fresh take on the story of the brothers who helped define a generation with their sound.
Ridley Scott’s Bee Gees biopic promises to be an emotional, music-driven journey-one that’s shaping up to be a major highlight of 2025 cinema.
