Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, genuinely believes Queen Elizabeth still talks to her, and she’s not kidding.
In a touching and slightly mystical twist, Sarah says the late monarch speaks to her daily through the corgis she inherited after the Queen passed away in September 2022. Yep, you read that right. Those two royal pups, Muick and Sandy, aren’t just cute, they’re spiritual messengers now, at least in Sarah’s eyes.
At the Creative Women Platform Forum in London, Sarah opened up about her mornings with the dogs and how convinced she is that the Queen is still around. “I have her dogs; I have her corgis,” she shared. “Every morning they come in and go ‘woof woof’ and all that, and I’m sure it’s her talking to me. I’m sure it’s her, reminding me she’s still around.” Whether it’s comfort, memory, or something deeper, Sarah’s bond with the Queen clearly didn’t end with her passing.
She’s stayed incredibly close to her former in-laws, especially Prince Andrew, her ex-husband and Queen Elizabeth’s son, and continues to honor the late monarch’s memory in every way she can. “I had the greatest honor to be her daughter-in-law. That’s pretty huge,” she said with heartfelt pride. Even something as simple as spotting the Queen’s name on the Elizabeth Line while riding the Tube pulls at her heartstrings. “I want everyone to remember what an amazing lady she was.”
But let’s get back to the dogs, because Sarah can’t stop gushing over them, and honestly, same. In an interview with HELLO! magazine, she said, “They are such joys. I am dog-mad, and they are exceptional.” Sandy, in particular, seems to have fully adopted Sarah as his new queen. “Sandy follows me everywhere, I think he thinks I am the queen,” she joked. For Sarah, these dogs aren’t just royal pets. They’re symbols of loyalty, love, and a lingering connection to someone who meant the world to her.
The Duchess, still affectionately known as Fergie, describes the corgis as one of the most meaningful gifts she received from Queen Elizabeth. But there’s another, more emotional gift that’s stayed with her: the Queen’s final words. Sarah told Platinum magazine that during their last conversation, the Queen said, “Be yourself.” And that simple sentence has stuck. “That was the best gift, apart from the corgis, that she gave me,” Sarah said. The Queen also added, “I cared for you, Sarah, and I love you and that you’re good enough. Just be it.”
Sarah didn’t hold back her feelings during the first anniversary of the Queen’s passing either. She posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling the Queen her “second mother.” “You were a wonderful friend, a mentor, a second mother to me, and a grandmother to my daughters, who share so much of your courage and heart,” she wrote. “You will always be loved and missed by our family and our nation.”
There’s something incredibly raw and real about the way Sarah Ferguson continues to honor the Queen, whether it’s through corgi cuddles, tearful memories, or just sharing what those last words meant to her. She’s not just a royal by marriage. She’s a woman deeply connected to one of the most iconic figures in British history, and she’s doing her best to keep that spirit alive… one bark at a time.
