Sean Penn has made some bold statements about President Donald Trump, warning that the former reality star could be on a mission to “destroy the world.”
The outspoken actor, known for his political commentary, shared his concerns about Trump’s second term and the possible consequences of his actions during a conversation on Jim Acosta’s podcast.
Penn discussed the president’s controversial plans, including a proposal to deport American citizens to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison, and raised alarms about what he sees as the potential for a catastrophic future under Trump’s leadership. He compared Trump’s mindset to a jilted lover with destructive tendencies, saying that Trump might view the world like someone unable to handle rejection, ready to take everything down if he can’t have it.
“I think it’s a reasonable theory that Donald Trump is not unlike the spouse of someone who leaves him, perhaps for another, who then murders their former partner, because if they can’t have her, nobody can,” Penn said. “I think Donald Trump, in his solipsism, may have that relationship with the world, and this destruction is in part a power play, and also a literal intention of his final out.”
When asked about the possibility of Trump attempting to run for a third term, Penn didn’t mince words, warning that such a move could lead to disastrous consequences. “I think he might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life,” he added, raising serious concerns about the direction in which the US could be headed under the Trump administration.
The actor also took the opportunity to promote his latest project, Words of War, a biographical drama about Anna Politkovskaya, a Russian journalist who stood up against corruption but was tragically assassinated in 2005. “Those who think it can’t happen here either have not studied the certain indications that it will, unless people are involved and they’re educated,” Penn warned. “We are tasting in our country what the Russians have gone through.”
