While Selena Gomez is deeply infatuated with Benny Blanco, don’t anticipate her gushing about her “fiancé” anytime soon.
The singer and Only Murders in the Building star recently revealed she finds the label super awkward, even though she and Benny have been engaged for over six months.
While chatting on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Selena admitted that calling Benny her fiancé just doesn’t sit right. “It’s so strange,” she said. “I just say my partner or Benny. But the other day, I caught myself saying ‘my boyfriend’… but that’s not quite where we’re at anymore.”
Benny, whose full name is Benjamin Joseph Levin, couldn’t agree more. He chimed in calling “fiancé” the “worst word in the world” and said he often refers to Selena as his wife instead. Yeah, these two are clearly vibing on the same wavelength.
When asked about who “wears the trousers” in their relationship, Selena didn’t shy away from saying it’s a pretty equal dynamic, though she joked she might need a little more than Benny. She’s always been open about her deep empathy and how much she values kindness and balance, and it shows in how she talks about their connection.
Benny also got candid about what brought him to this stage in life. He said he was really ready to settle down and even had a list of qualities he was looking for in a partner. His must-haves? Kindness, compassion, maturity, and passion, no matter what someone did for a living. “If this person made olives, I’d want them to make olives every day and be passionate about it,” he said. Lucky for him, Selena ticked every box.
Selena, who rose to fame on Disney Channel and evolved into a powerhouse actress and musician, says the biggest compliment she can receive isn’t about her talent or fame, but how hard she works and how she treats people. “That’s very important to me,” she said. And that’s probably part of what made Benny fall so hard.
It’s safe to say this couple does things their own way, and fans are loving it. Whether or not Selena ever uses the word “fiancé,” it’s clear she’s exactly where she wants to be.
