Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is officially stepping into her own identity, and doing it on her own terms.
The daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt just made a quiet but bold move by debuting a new name, and fans can’t stop talking about it. At 19, she’s now going by “Shi,” and she made her reintroduction in true Gen Z style, through her passion for dance.
Shi’s new nickname popped up in a subtle but headline-worthy moment during the Isabel Marant collection launch in Los Angeles on May 29. According to Variety, she was credited as “Shi” for the choreography she worked on for a performance by dancers Keoni Rose and Tako Suzuki. The number was set to Luella’s new song “Naïve,” making the moment a stylish blend of music, fashion, and a quiet personal statement.
What makes this move even more powerful is the context behind it. Just last year, right after turning 18, Shi legally filed to drop “Pitt” from her last name, officially going by Shiloh Jolie. That petition marked a clear signal that she was ready to carve out her identity, separate from the Hollywood legacy of her famous father.
And she’s not alone in that. While Shi’s name debut is the latest in a series of subtle family shakeups, other Jolie-Pitt siblings have been doing the same. Vivienne Jolie, the 16-year-old twin, chose to go by her mother’s surname too. She worked as a producer’s assistant on The Outsiders and was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the official Playbill. It wasn’t just a casual gig either, Vivienne is apparently passionate about theater, and the experience left a major impression on her.
“My daughter Viv loves theater,” Angelina told Deadline last year. “She appreciates all theater, but she certainly knows what she feels close to and what she responds to.” Jolie also added that Vivienne’s work on The Outsiders was a transformative experience and something deeply personal. “She’s communicating something to me, and that is the power of this material,” Angelina explained, praising her daughter’s growth throughout the production.
Still, despite this recent wave of public creative involvement, Angelina insists her kids are private at heart. In a November appearance on Good Morning America, she opened up about how none of her children are interested in the spotlight. “They’re quite private,” she said, making it clear that their recent ventures don’t mean they’re ready for celebrity status.
And when it comes to Shi, Angelina stressed just how much she values her personal space. “She’s extremely private,” the Maleficent star shared. “They weren’t born with privacy, right? I hope they can have that as they grow.” That longing for personal space might be exactly why Shi’s quiet debut of her new name felt so intentional, no flashy announcement, no Instagram post, just a line in a dance credit and a soft shift in identity.
This new era for Shi Jolie marks more than just a name change, it’s a reflection of growing independence, quiet strength, and a desire to define herself outside the noise of Hollywood and her parents’ high-profile past. As the next generation of the Jolie-Pitt family begins to emerge, it’s clear they’re doing it on their own terms, name by name.
