Travis Kelce is more than just a beast on the football field, he’s now showing off his acting chops too.
Christopher McDonald, best known for his role as Shooter McGavin in the original Happy Gilmore, is giving Kelce some serious props for his performance in Happy Gilmore 2.
The 70-year-old actor recently shared his thoughts with People, saying he was genuinely surprised by Kelce’s screen presence. “Travis Kelce has been out there and I just really liked him as a person,” McDonald said. “He is really funny. Way too handsome, by the way, but really a good actor actually. Surprisingly good.”
Kelce, 35, makes a cameo in the upcoming sequel to the 1996 cult comedy, and even though McDonald didn’t get a chance to square off with him on the golf course, he’s convinced the Chiefs star would crush it. “He’s a good athlete. He’s a beast. I’m sure he kills the ball.”
Known more for catching touchdown passes than delivering punchlines, Kelce is branching out while still holding strong to his NFL career. Despite swirling rumors that he might retire, he recently shut them down.
“It wasn’t a very tough [decision] for me,” Kelce told reporters. “I know I’m getting older, but at the same time I still feel like I got a lot that I can prove in this league.”
After a tough Super Bowl loss earlier this year, many fans wondered if that might be the end of his NFL journey. But Kelce isn’t done yet. “I love football. I don’t think I really thought about it that much,” he said. “My friends and family and the team and the guys and women in this building, I love coming into work every single day.”
Kelce admitted he took his time before committing to another season with the Kansas City Chiefs. “You want to let the emotions die down after the end of the season,” he said. “That was the biggest thing – you don’t want to make decisions off initial emotions. But once they died down, I still felt like I had that fire in my chest to be able to keep coming in and building and be better and chase another Super Bowl.”
So whether he’s starring in a sports comedy or catching passes on game day, Travis Kelce is proving he’s got range, on and off the field. With Christopher McDonald vouching for his talent, Kelce’s acting debut might just be the beginning of another successful chapter.
