Andy Richter has made the headlines recently with his performance on Dancing with the Stars, but off the limelight, he has had the unwavering support of his wife, Jennifer Herrera Richter.
The two married in June 2023 following a romance that started one year prior, and their romance is as sweet as it is contemporary. From where they met on a dating site to merging their households, Jennifer has been the focal point of Andy’s life, both in his professional and personal life.
Andy, married for 25 years to actress and writer Sarah Thyre until their divorce, fell in love again in 2022 when he dated Jen on the dating app Hinge. He confessed that it was his “first real experience” with online dating at the time, having tried one brief stint on Raya at the urging of his friend, comedian Nikki Glaser. They hit it off from the start. Within a few dates, Andy was spending increasing time at Jen’s residence, where he also became acquainted with her daughter Cornelia. “I found myself driving home, feeling incredibly, incredibly happy,” he said in an interview with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Dinner’s on Me podcast.
Jen, who is different from Andy in this respect, is not a performer but very much entrenched in the entertainment business. She is a veteran producer and talent agent, and the creator of Las Bandas Be Brave, a niche agency representing directors who work on commercials, music videos, and documentaries. She has over 24 years of experience in the music, advertising, and entertainment industry as a creative producer, agent, and executive producer, according to her professional bio. Andy has consistently talked about how much he is in awe of her achievements and self-sufficiency, at one time commenting that what attracted him was the fact that “she did not need me. She has her own business, she has a career … does well at it, is well respected in her community.”
Jen also has a daughter named Cornelia who is currently in kindergarten. She had decided to be a single mother prior to meeting Andy, something the comedian greatly admired from the beginning of their relationship. Andy, who has two children, William and Mercy, with his former wife Sarah, took readily to being a stepdad. He has talked about parenting a young child again, joking on Kara Mayer Robinson’s Really Famous podcast in 2022 that, “My fiancée has a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and so now I have a two-and-a-half-year-old … not officially, but we’re working on it.” He established early on that Cornelia was included in the deal the whole time, saying, “I never once tried to pretend like it wasn’t, like the two of them weren’t one thing.”

The romance of the couple was swift. They started dating early in 2022, and in November of that year, Andy made their engagement announcement on Instagram. In a post celebrating, he wrote: “Some non-election news: I got engaged! To a lady! Her name is Jennifer Herrera and she’s the best. We’ve been together since the start of the year, and we’re getting married next summer. HOORAY LOVE!”

As planned, Andy and Jen were wed in June 2023 in their home in West Hollywood, California. The wedding was small and low-key, akin to a house party rather than an orthodox wedding. When the friend of Jen who was going to officiate at the ceremony could not attend, Andy asked his longtime comedy collaborator Conan O’Brien, who filled in at the last minute. “I knew that he had done it [previously] because he married our wardrobe designer on our show,” Andy told Page Six. “So I asked him to do it and he did it!”
The ceremony was full of laughter and camaraderie, just the right fit for the personality of the comedian. Andy put up a cute photo on Instagram of him and Jen sharing their wedding cake, captioned simply: “We got married.” Since then, Jen has been a visible and encouraging figure in Andy’s life, including attending his stint on Dancing with the Stars and cheering him on during his performances with pro dance partner Emma Slater. Andy, who confessed on his Conan Needs a Friend podcast that he typically does not dance and even asked for the “shortest song possible” for their first dance at their wedding, has been pushing past his comfort zone on national TV.
So far, the pair have earned 25 points in the competition, with judges awarding 9 out of 20 for their Week 1 cha-cha and 16 out of 30 for their Week 2 tango. For Andy, having Jen by his side throughout this journey has been invaluable.
