T.H.E Interview – FAZLI

FAZLI

FAZLI has some serious stories to tell. His musical suitcase is packed full of real-life experiences that will stay with him forever.

As a youngster, the Afghani-born singer fled his native land, full of conflict and war for Russia and then Scandinavia. As a consequence, his music combines styles from different cultures, as he draws from his universal background. Born into an Afghan musical family, his father was a singer from an Afghanistan rich in music heritage; a melting pot for Persian, Indian, folk and popular music. From a young age, Fazli was exposed to these many types of music and grew up absorbing even more new musical influences.

New single ’Get Away’ was written at a point in his life where troubles and worries were weighing heavy, and as the title suggests he wanted to escape from all of that. Music was his escape. Let it be your escape too!

FAZLI ‘Get Away’ is OUT NOW via Disco:wax and the also on the mighty 3Beat in the UK & Ireland.

T.H.E – Hi Fazli, where are you from?

FAZLI – I’m originally from Afghanistan, Kabul, but I have lived in Denmark since I was 6 years old.

T.H.E – Were you always musically inclined while growing up?

Music have been a big part of my life since I was a child. Somewhere deep down I’ve always known that I will be working with music. But off course, first I had to go through all the other stuff that life brings along.

T.H.E – What inspired you to start making your brand of Pop/Dance music?

FAZLI – I have spent a lot of hours in the studio trying to define my sound. I have discovered a lot during this process and I must say that I have found a new side of myself. It’s hard to say if it’s a new style or just an upgraded version of me mixed with all my ideas, emotions and thoughts. But this was the best way to express myself.

T.H.E – What artists would you say are your main influences?

FAZLI – I have a lot of old school in me. Like Michael Jackson, Anthony Hamilton, Stevie wonder and I could continue. But lately I have listened to a lot different artist. From Tory Lanez to Calvin Harris to 6lack.

T.H.E – Can you tell us about your new single ‘Get Away’?

FAZLI – Get Away is a story about me being in a place in my life where I felt everything was cloudy and stormy. But even though things weren’t working out for me at the moment, I had faith and a feeling that regardless of what would happen, everything would work out. As long as I kept my head up and god on my mind. So overall, it’s a story about someone making it through the bad times and make to the other side.

T.H.E – What other places are you looking to take your music? Where do you aspire to travel and play?

FAZLI – Wonderful question. I could probably mention all the countries I know in the world. I love travelling around and see the world from different perspectives. But I would really be happy if I could get to the States and create some success there.

T.H.E – What’s the place you’ve performed in anywhere in the world?

FAZLI – I would love to perform at some big festivals like for example Coachella in the states.

T.H.E – What three records never leave your playlists and why?

FAZLI –

1. 2pac – Changes

One of the greatest songs off all time. This is such a strong track that I don’t even have to mention all the goodies. Powerful and very meaningful.

2. Anthony Hamilton – Aint nobody worryin’

I love it when the whole thing just collaborates on a higher level. It is also very important for me that the meaning and the lyric of the songs are powerful. And this one I must say he have a clear message. And a beautiful message.

3. Michael Jackson – They don’t really care about us

Do I have to say anything??

T.H.E – What does the near future hold for Fazli?

FAZLI – If I knew that, I would probably be killed by the CIA. But what I hope and expect is that I can share my music with the world and tour around the world.
