T.H.E Interview – Kyper

kyper Mr G

Kyper made himself into a household name in the ’90s with his pop-disco-rap mix track ‘Tic Tac Toe’ which dominated the Billboard charts and the club scene.

The Atlanta artist has been a mainstay in the industry for the best part of 3 decades DJ’ing and producing. His latest release ‘Mr G’ is a thought-provoking electronic track that is intriguing and topical. We caught up with Kyper to discuss more about ‘Mr G’.

T.H.E – What’s the story behind ‘Mr G’?

Kyper – This one is for the Conspiracy Theorist. Since there’s been lots of talk about secret societies, Mr G uses past speeches from a past United States President George Bush where he openly spoke about a world agenda. Today we see that idea coming into view.

T.H.E – If you could sum up the release in 1 word, what would it be?

Kyper – Illuminating!

T.H.E – Can we hear any of your influences in the track?

Kyper – Yes, of course, British musician Paul Hardcastle did the same thing with his 1985 release “19” which was an eye-opener relating to the Vietnam War.

T.H.E – What are your hopes for this release?

Kyper – I hope to get the people listening and put them into deep thought, getting them to reach back into history and realize that nothing happens in this world by accident.

T.H.E – Talk us through your creative process?

Kyper – With this track, I basically took a different approach than what I usually do. I wanted to make a track that would get people thinking deep but at the same time have an updated electro feel. I started off by laying some deep undertone bass rumbles to emphasize in certain areas, but also wanted a hard-driving kick and percussions. I manipulated the keyboards using my Minikorg to create high pitch sounds that would resemble a computer processing data on the internet. Then we made the decision to use something that was openly done in public by someone in great power in order to bring life to the idea!

T.H.E – How has the initial reaction been?

Kyper – The timing couldn’t have been better. With today’s climate, Mr. G has sent many signals. We’ve had responses from protesters to curious minds wanting to know more about speeches from other presidents.  I’ve even had several DJs tell us that it reminded them of Paul Hardcastle’s 19 and it made them think on that same level.

T.H.E – Who would you like to see supporting ‘Mr G’?

Kyper – Anyone with a brain and a computer! …lol but on a serious note, I hope all electronic music listeners love this.

T.H.E – Where do you usually look for inspiration?

Kyper – I’m a nerd at times, but I’m really big on history and I love keeping up with technology. I often look for inspiration in sci-fi and astronomical areas.

 T.H.E – What’s next for Kyper?

Kyper – I have plans on releasing a new EP about Robots Taking over the world and a follow-up Full-Length LP

T.H.E – Where can we go to check out the track?

Kyper – Its available on all download and streaming sites. People can also check out the video on the KyperVEVO channel.
