T.H.E Interview – Martin Garrix

0

It’s easy to get lost in the numbers behind Martin Garrix’s meteoric rise. From his adolescent years to the onset of young adulthood, the Dutch superstar has already set precedents and scored landmarks at every corner of the music industry.

Picked up by Spinnin’ Records and subsequently backed by Scooter Braun, Martin has become one of electronic dance music’s youngest superstars, amassing a chart-topping, high-streaming musical legacy along the way.

Next up for Martin is a visit to the shores of Goa, India where he is scheduled to play at one of the top festivals in the world, Sunburn Goa. We had a word with Martin and spoke to him about headlining Sunburn Goa, getting the #3 spot on the DJ Mag Top 100 poll and plenty more! Have a read. :)

Vriggie – Hi Martin, thanks for taking the time out for this interview! How are you?

Martin Garrix – You’re welcome! I’m doing great. I’ve had a busy week full of interviews, my own show and other gigs and now I’m working on some new tracks in the studio.

Vriggie – We are super stoked to understand that you will be headlining Sunburn Goa 2015. Tell us your reaction when you found out! You have visited India in the past. What are you looking forward to this time around?

Martin Garrix – Yeah, me either! I’m very excited to headline Sunburn. I’ve played there before and I will never forget the Indian crowd. So energetic! I’m also looking forward to the delicious Indian food.

Vriggie – Sunburn Goa has grown to be one of the biggest festivals across the globe and it does reflect the growing dance music scene in India. What are your thoughts on it?

Martin Garrix – It’s amazing how India is discovering new music influences and seeing this festival growing with the years. I feel blessed to bring my music to this beautiful country!

Vriggie – What can fans expect from your set? Are there any unreleased originals/collaborations we can look forward to?

Martin Garrix – Yes, I’ve prepared a major set and you can expect some brand new Martin Garrix music!

Vriggie – Congratulations for getting the #3 spot on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs. How pleased are you? What are your thoughts on the rest of the list?

Martin Garrix – At first I didn’t believe it because we didn’t do any promo, then suddenly I saw loads of tweets where people congratulating me with my #3 spot, and I was like ‘WTF?!’ I was surprised so many people voted for me, but really pleased!

Vriggie – Considering that you have many performances throughout the year, what is your favorite part of performing at different locations? Is there any particular event which sticks out, in terms of inspiring you the most, crowd and DJ wise

Martin Garrix – Traveling! Seeing so many countries in a short time is amazing. Ultra Miami is one of my favorites. The nice thing about Ultra and WMC is that it’s one week and everyone is there. During Ultra I can see friends, DJs and promoters from all over the world. Feels like home!

Vriggie – Recently, you terminated your relationship with MusicAllStars Management. What are your plans for the future now that you’re no longer associated with Spinnin’ Records?

Martin Garrix – Working on a lot of new, refreshing tracks!

Vriggie – We loved the incredible gesture you recently made for your fan, Jamie Johnston. How important a role you feel social media plays in bringing artists closer to their fans?

Martin Garrix – Yes, that was amazing ha-ha! I think social media is a perfect way to interact with my fans. That’s how I can keep in touch with them. I always feel so honored by the messages fans send to me. I wish I could reply to them all!
