Boom Merchant is on an unstoppable roll in 2025 and his new EP Bolivia proves it yet again.
With this two-track release out now on Black Square Recordings, the Irish-born, Mexico-based techno force continues to define his sound with a bold, no-nonsense attitude. After kicking off the year with a dark banger on T78’s Autektone Dark, Bolivia marks Boom Merchant’s fifth release of the year – and it’s pure dance floor heat.
The EP opens with the title track “Bolivia,” a gritty and pulsating techno weapon that hits you right in the gut. With a deep, brooding bassline and hypnotic, rolling drums, this one’s meant for peak-time club moments. There’s a cheeky vocal sample in the mix too – shouting out “Bolivia” in reference to certain infamous party supplies – giving it that edge that grabs attention. It’s dark, menacing, and full of power, exactly what Boom Merchant fans love him for.
Flip to the B-side and you get “Nanaman,” which keeps the heavy bass and crisp percussion going but adds a layer of melodic emotion. Think late-night vibes with melancholic pads and a haunting pitched vocal lifted from a forgotten ‘80s pop track. It’s got the balance right – heads down, hands up – perfect for closing out a set when you want to leave people buzzing. Together, both tracks on Bolivia show off Boom Merchant’s ability to shift moods while staying club-ready and undeniably groovy.
With roots in Ireland, years of grinding in Scotland’s underground scene (including a residency at Surge nightclub in Glasgow), and a new chapter in Mexico, Boom Merchant’s story is as global as his sound. He’s played sets across Europe and Asia and is now making serious noise in the Americas, regularly performing across Mexico and connecting with new fans on this side of the world.
If you’re into techno that hits hard but still makes you feel something, Bolivia is for you. Whether you’re on the dance floor or diving into a late-night playlist, Boom Merchant is giving you the soundtrack.
