Following the runaway success of his label debut “Mvinline”, Boys Noize (Alex Ridha) returns to Defected for the anticipated follow-up single “All I Want”, featuring the unmistakable vocals of Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears.

Alongside the release of the single comes the official music video, directed by Dan Streit and produced by Grin Machine.

Dan Streit, whose recent work includes music videos for Brockhampton “Count On Me” (w/ Dominic Fike and Lil Nas X), Charli XCX “Forever” and Mac DeMarco’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, worked closely with Boys Noize who had a very clear vision for the video. Shot in Los Angeles, the video is a satirical examination of the “social media age” experience and the surface-level interactions facilitated by it. Following the protagonist, a sculpted, buff bodybuilder played by Brad Swanick, on his quest for perfection, it shows his lonely journey paved by narcissism and self-obsession as he attempts to forge relationships.

Boys Noize explains, “When I thought about a video for this song, the idea about reversing the lyrics ‘all I want is you’ was the first thought. People obsess so much about their body, their look, their social profiles, their “likes”, and it becomes more important than everything else. I was a fan of Dan Streit’s previous work and focus on unique fringe characters, so I contacted him and presented him the idea for this video, he loved it and took it to the next level. “I love myself, look at me, look at my photos, look, people actually like me!”

“All I Want” started its life as a basic demo made by Boys Noize and Jake Shears years ago for Alex (aka Boys Noize) to play at one of Jake’s infamous NYC apartment parties. The track had since remained a hidden gem on a broken hard drive until years later when Alex rediscovered the track and decided to give it new life for 2021. Taking inspiration from classic Chicago house as he re-worked the demo for new ears, this dancefloor-ready cut is exquisitely executed, as Boys Noize’s signature futuristic flare and Jake’s distinctive glowy vocal make a sublime pairing.
