When Tom Findlay first heard James Alexander Bright’s latest release on the radio, he was so impressed that he immediately reached out.

Over the next few months, the duo created an absolute mountain of incredible work, some of which would feature on Groove Armada’s recent album, Edge Of The Horizon. A creative collaboration made in heaven – Bright & Findlay – was born.

Slow Dance EP released on Athens Of The North in 2021 was the first solo outing from these sessions which received strong support including from Gilles Peterson (Single of the Year), Huey Morgan (Single of the Week), Tom Ravenscroft, Don Letts, Bill Brewster, & Greg Wilson.

‘Fireflies’ (released 24th February on Athens Of The North) is the first single from their forthcoming LP, released Summer 2023.

‘Fireflies’ is full colour, wide screen machine soul. The track begins with warm, rich synths and laid back, funky bass, Bright’s smooth, soulful vocals interweaving between Findlay’s well-crafted beats. New, yet nostalgic. Fresh, yet familiar. Think a late summers’ afternoon with a cool drink in hand, chilling by the pool with your favourite selector spinning relaxing beats.

The video for the single, brought to us by Surface Pressure, wraps it all up in a hazy, halcyon audio-visual daydream. Artwork for the singles and album was inspired by the ancient stones collected and collaged on beach walks around the UK by James Alexander Bright himself (Fuzzy & Magic).

James Alexander Bright: “Fireflies feels part dance floor, part sunshine-coastal-drive-jam.”

Tom Findlay: “There’s influences of Hall and Oates in there for sure….and we can go for that!”

Tom Finlay on the upcoming album: In part, it’s our love letter to 70s rock; part machine drum soul, part self-press-released boogie.”
James Alexander Bright: “With a large dollop of sunset Balearic electronics!”

Athens Of The North said about the duo: “What’s amazing, is we’re already fans of each other’s work… so when Tom asked if I was interested in the project and gave me a listen, it was such an easy decision. I don’t work with many new artists, only the right ones. We all have similar taste and none of have lost that love of new (and old) music, I know this will turn out to be a project we are all proud of.”
