Mr Blasé

With a long time interest in Dance music, it took a long time for Mr. Blasé to come out of the woodwork and start unleashing his own productions to the world.

With ‘Communication’, Mr Blasé makes his debut and announces himself as THE name to watch in House music. We will be keeping a close eye on his future works, but wanted to catch up with the artist to learn more about the release and what we can expect from him from now on. Enjoy!

T.H.E – So – can you sum up the inspiration behind the name and what made you choose it?

Mr Blasé – The name is really a result of the songwriting of Sealskin, with whom I had the pleasure of working on this song. It really captures those moments when you meet someone and the communication is effortless and sometimes not even requiring many words, because you connect on a level that is so much deeper. So yeah, the title is our mini philosophy on those special encounters/moments!

T.H.E – Can we expect more tracks in this style from you in the future?

Mr Blasé – Yeah, definitely. I’ve been working non-stop over the past 6 months, so have quite a bit of material waiting to be shared with the world. The next few months will be busy from a release perspective where I’ll be looking to release a song a month.

Because I’m influenced by so many different styles of music (from Electronic to Samba to Classic Rock) listeners can expect some variation in style, but what will always be consistent is that it will be music made for dance floor!

T.H.E – Obviously many different artists influence people, but do you have any specific influences you think are noticeable in this release?

Mr Blasé – This specific release started in a very different place, with a way more down tempo Afro feel and way more vocals. But when I played it out I felt it needed a bit more of a percussive feel to keep the dance floor moving. So to arrive at this point, I tried to imagine it fitting into diverse DJ sets like The Martinez Brothers, Loco Dice and DJs from my country like Da Capo and Culoe de Song.

T.H.E – How long did it take to complete the track from start to finish?

Mr Blasé – Just over a month and a half. I initially found Sealskin through a short film I watched. I contacted her on Instagram and within 2 weeks she had the vocal recorded and we had the first demo version ready. From there it took a further 6 weeks to get to a point where we were both happy with where we landed.

T.H.E – Do you have anything else in the pipeline for us at the moment?

Mr Blasé – Yes! As I said I’ll be looking to release at a rate of one song per month. For some, I’m in talks with labels right now and we’re sorting out some paperwork. On others I’ll be releasing independently through my label, Odd One In.

Then there’s a South American tour in the pipelines for the end of the year going into 2019. In between, there’ll be dates in South East Asia and a few dotted around Europe that will be confirmed in the next month.

T.H.E – Was there a specific moment you knew the track was finished, or was it one that took a lot of time to perfect?

Mr Blasé – I think if you speak to any artist they’ll tell you a track is never finished. :-)

But yeah the minute the song could fit in my DJ sets and could keep the groove going, I knew it was time to share it with the world.

T.H.E – You have a really unique sound – do you have a preference over what sound you produce, or does it happen naturally?

Mr Blasé – Each time I sit down with a song it’s like a new relationship. The things that worked before sometimes don’t work again, so I’m constantly exploring new seas. There are things I like which I always try to include in my music – groove, melody and harmony. It needs to deliver emotion. And I think that’s my ultimate preference – emotion.

T.H.E – Finally, where can we find the track?

Mr Blasé – ‘Communication’ is available on all the major platforms for streaming and purchase. For those wanting to stream it, it can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, Google Play and Tidal!
