Sam Laxton

Newcastle based producer Sam Laxton has had a solid few months. With big tunes coming out on multiple labels and big shows all over his native UK, the artist is really coming in to his own.

‘Addicted’ was released on AVA White to rousing reviews, showing his progression has continued and he shows no signs of stopping. We caught up with Sam to hear a bit more about what he’s been up to and learn about his latest release!

T.H.E – So – can you sum up the inspiration behind the name and what made you choose it?

Sam Laxton – I chose to name it “Addicted” because the track captures everything I love about high energy Trance, from the dirty side to the big chord melody. For years I had been trying to really nail this sound, and now that I’ve unleashed it there’s no going back. I’m hooked.

T.H.E – Can we expect more tracks in this style from you in the future?

Sam Laxton – Absolutely! I really want to use this step in my artistic journey as a platform for experimentation. There are new techniques that I have applied in “Addicted” and these will continue into next year, mainly the use of a strong driving bass line with massive synths on top.

T.H.E – Obviously many different artists influence people, but do you have any specific influences you think are noticeable in this release?

Sam Laxton – I’m glad you’re focusing on this release because the influences question gets a different answer from me each time haha! I definitely took inspiration from other Trance producers such as James Dymond, Allen Watts and Reorder, but the track also has some early 2000s vibes in there whilst aiming to be as forward thinking as possible.

T.H.E – How long did it take to complete the track from start to finish?

Sam Laxton – I was travelling between shows but managed to finish the track on and off over the first 3 weeks of January before playing in Bangkok.

T.H.E – Do you have anything else in the pipeline for us at the moment?

Sam Laxton – Lately I have been working on new remixes and originals that I will play at Luminosity Beach Festival and in Ibiza this summer. I am super excited to release my new material as soon as possible. I’m kind of in that limbo stage waiting to announce the next one!

T.H.E – Was there a specific moment you knew the track was finished, or was it one that took a lot of time to perfect?

Sam Laxton – I think the most significant moment for me was when I had completed most of the track’s structure, because normally by then I can decide if it will work out. I asked the label for feedback and they loved it, so I had that extra push to finish it.

T.H.E – Do you have a preference over what sound you produce, or does it happen naturally?

Sam Laxton – Lately I’ve decided I want to write my tracks solely for the club, so I’m aiming for a heavy energetic feeling in all my releases. I think it does come naturally in a sense because I already enjoy the sound that I am trying to capture – it isn’t artistically demanding in a bad way.

T.H.E – Finally, where can we find the tracks?

Sam Laxton – “Addicted” is available now to stream and download from Beatport, iTunes, Spotify, Tidal and many more via the following link.
