ISOxo and FrostTop link up on their first joint release, “Angels Landing,” a transportive and cathartic single that disembarks as part of the eighth season of releases from NIGHTMODE.

The way in which most collaborations come together can be so cut and dry. Typically, two like-minded artists realize they share common ground musically, so they crunch some numbers and then enter in this virtual volleyball match of bouncing various iterations of WIPs back and forth until they reach a finished product. End of story.

But in the case of ISOxo and FrostTop, the connection goes way deeper. Not only are they longtime best friends with an unshakeable bond, but have each found themselves at the breaking point of their explosive careers.

Hailing from San Diego, ISOxo is an Asian American artist fresh off his sold out Nightrealm tour—a run of dates tied to his critically acclaimed 5-track EP of the same name—and has released massive singles “POWERMOVE” and “Stinger” alongside bass music titans RL Grime and Peekaboo, respectively.

On the other hand, Long Beach native FrostTop was recently tapped by Boombox Cartel to remix his genre-blending trap single “Máquina,” and has been responsible for a string of originals that have earned the stamp of approval from gatekeepers like Skrillex, The Chainsmokers, SLANDER, Excision, and Illenium.

One of the primary indicators speaking to their skyrocketing stock, though, is the fact that they were both asked to pull off double duties at HARD Summer Music Festival, hopping from their solo performances to throw down a second set for the Nightrealm stage takeover, with a lineup bolstering appearances from Flosstradamus, Mr. Carmack, Jawns, and more. Taking all of this into consideration, all signs have been pointing towards this momentous collab on NIGHTMODE.

“Angels Landing” is an enthralling post-trap track that fits dead center in the Venn diagram between these boundary-pushing producers. It’s anthemic as all hell. There’s a haunting vocal hook calling out into the infinite abyss, tearing down the walls of reality with its repeated lyrics “are we dreaming?” Cinematic piano keys and suspenseful pads let the gravity of that question sink in, before the doorway to another dimension flings open and all worries dissipate into the dark, cavernous void of the track’s otherworldly drop.

Earsplitting, rumbling synths shoot out with Mach5 momentum, ripping through the space across thunderous drums, clanging percussive riffs, scuffling snare fills, moaning vox, and a melancholic hardwave resolution that makes waking life resemble something closer to a distorted memory.

“‘Angels Landing’ is a fictional story made into a song about escaping a dying home.”–ISOxo

“‘Angels Landing’ is such a special song for me. Julian [ISOxo] and I both look at this song as our best work. We are so extremely excited to show both of our worlds colliding into one song. We feel it is the perfect representation of both of our sounds. After almost two years of the song being done, it is such a good feeling to be able to showcase it this month.”–FrostTop
