Kelly Clarkson is being real with fans, touring just isn’t on the table right now, and it all comes down to one thing: she’s simply too busy.
The pop star, who’s been killing it as the host of The Kelly Clarkson Show since 2019, recently opened up about why fans haven’t seen her on the road in years. And while she still loves performing, Clarkson made it clear during a recent Atlantic City show that juggling her hit talk show and being a hands-on mom is taking up all her time.
In a refreshingly candid moment on stage at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena, the 43-year-old admitted, “We haven’t done a show in a while, y’all, ’cause I have a talk show. It’s like a whole other job.” Fans were pumped to see her perform again, but the vibe was bittersweet, Clarkson absolutely loves connecting with her audience live, yet the logistics of touring just don’t work with her current life setup.
Clarkson’s fans already know she’s the kind of artist who puts her all into everything she does, whether it’s belting out a power ballad or chatting with celebs on her daytime show. But now she’s also navigating single motherhood, raising her two kids, River, 10, and Remington, 9, who she shares with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. And between baseball practices, school events, and her TV schedule, there’s just no space for a full-blown tour right now.
“We are bummed because we love doing shows, and it’s hard to fit it in,” she told the crowd. “So it’s cool when it does work out with the schedule. And it’s cool to get to see your faces and feed off y’all.” The gratitude was there, but so was the honest exhaustion.
Clarkson also talked about how she’s not even thinking about dating at the moment. In a recent appearance on Today with Jenna and Friends, she explained that all her energy is going toward raising her kids right and being present for them as much as she can. “I’m running from my show to baseball practice, and I’m trying to be just there,” she said, adding that her mom keeps reminding her she’s doing fine, even when she can’t make everything. “My mom will tell me, ‘Look, I was a single mom. I didn’t get to make everything. They’re going to be fine. You turned out fine’.”
Despite the packed calendar and parenting priorities, Kelly did manage to squeeze in two rare shows in Atlantic City over Mother’s Day weekend. And even though her kids weren’t tagging along this time, she took the chance to enjoy a little grown-up time with her band. “I do have a couple of shows, but my kids aren’t coming,” she said. “So I do get to be an adult with my band, having drinks and having adult time.”
Clarkson, who first stole America’s heart as the winner of American Idol back in 2002, continues to strike a balance between career and family life, even if that means stepping back from one part of her music career for a while. Touring may be on pause, but her passion for performing and her connection with fans clearly haven’t faded.
So yeah, Kelly Clarkson is too busy to tour right now, but she’s not disappearing. She’s just living a very full, very real life, something a lot of fans can relate to. And when the time’s right, you can bet she’ll be back on that stage with the same powerhouse energy she’s always had.
