UK’s very own renaissance man Majestic combines forces with lauded songstress Jem Cooke on their sensational collab “Free,” arriving as their debut offering for the Insomniac Records imprint.
As a longstanding fixture of the London underground, the one rightfully known as Majestic has been wearing many crowns as a DJ/producer, MC, and a larger-than-life radio personality, effectively transforming his background in pirate radio into a high-profile KISS FM residency. When he’s not maintaining his reputation as a tried-and-tested tastemaker for house music on the airwaves, he keeps himself busy constructing dance tracks made to go the distance. He’s finding himself in the perfect company for his latest offering, teaming up with lauded singer/songwriter Jem Cooke on their euphoric vocal house single “Free.”
A feel-good number equipped with all the anthem-ready accouterments, “Free” rolls in like a rush of serotonin. Revolving around a divaesque delivery from the acclaimed Jem Cooke, there’s a palpable carefree spirit emanating from every note she nails. Brimming with the euphoria of vintage disco, the shimmering groove ebbs and flows around lush orchestral atmospherics, swelling strings, and even classic piano house play rounding out the breakdown. Elevating the piece furthermore is an injection of frothy, proggy melodies providing an extra layer of elation.
Jem Cooke speaks of the reckless abandon beating in the heart of the single, attributing its songwriting to the idea of having someone there to keep you grounded amidst the chaos of the dancefloor.
“‘Free’ is about one of those special moments on the dancefloor with your favorite person, where you’re ducking and diving between the lights, having a properly wonderful time, and knowing that, if you encounter any dark spots, then your special person is right there with you to pull you back around! It was a brilliant studio session that produced the track, and we’re very excited to get this one out.”
The release of “Free” arrives roughly a year after Majestic graced the Insomniac Records-hosted stage stereoBLOOM at EDC Las Vegas in 2022. He’s currently hosting a residency in Ibiza alongside fellow hitmaker Joel Corry, with multiple co-headlining nights at Ibiza Rocks Hotel, as well as upcoming stops in New York, Brighton, and London. He’s been hammering out a handful of club-ready house cuts on an almost monthly cadence since the start of 2023, including “Annihilator,” “Bumpin,’” and his most recent offering “Dance All Night” alongside Sara Sukkha. His profile is still skyrocketing from the viral success of his 2021 smash hit “Rasputin,” which is edging towards half a billion Spotify streams and reached both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot Dance Chart.
Equally, Jem Cooke has penned her fair share of memorable hits in recent years, lending both her songwriting skills and distinct vocal prowess to all corners of the dance music landscape. She’s enjoyed monumental success working alongside the likes of Franky Wah, Delta Heavy, Phantoms, Hayden James, and Gorgon City, and the goosebump-inducing single “Breathe” with CamelPhat and Cristoph.
