London-based songstress MALIKA delivers her long-awaited Songs About C EP.
The EP champions the UK vocalist’s talent, with production credits from the likes of Snakehips, Maths Time Joy, Bearcubs, Davinche, and Bodhi, among others. Following up her three highly acclaimed singles, ‘Put It On Me’, ‘Run’ and ‘I Live’, the six-track collection embodies the raw feelings and emotion behind MALIKA’s inspiration for the production.
Taking her listeners on a musical journey, Songs About C chronicles tales of heartbreak and love, dedicating the release to the journey of her relationship and ultimate breakup with her ex, and the ups and downs they experienced when together. Acting as a diary of songs, the six tracks entwine 90s R&B vibes whilst simultaneously creating a forward-thinking sound.
Beginning the story with her breakthrough track ‘Put In On Me’, the upbeat groove reflects the playful attitude towards blossoming romances. Whilst ‘Love’ is filled with emotion as it explores the trust issues surrounding the beginning of relationships. As the EP continues, the rawness of ‘I Live’ and ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ allows listeners to become closer to MALIKA and draw from her relatable experiences, which she recently documented during an incredible COLORS Berlin session.
Showcasing MALIKA’s eclectic style and distinctive vocals, Songs About C begins to highlight the loss felt during the end of a romance as ‘Love You Again (LUA)’ utilises MALIKA’s powerful vocal, rippling with emotion. Rounding off the EP with the pensive ‘Run’, the track is a captivating piece of music and shows the dynamic singer’s darker edge.
