Returning to the spotlight with his first release as an independent artist, MELVV is proud to present “When I’m With You.”
Out now via all DSPs, “WIWY” also dropped as editions of NFTs via revolutionary web3 platform sound.xyz yesterday.
“I’m really excited to be an independent artist for the first time since I was 19. Over the past five years, I’ve put together a catalog that didn’t quite fit in with my major label releases; ‘When I’m With You’ is the first of these.”
“This song is for several things. It’s for my girlfriend, my family, and my friends for being there for me when we all got stuck inside; for the feeling of being at shows, looking over to the person next to you and knowing you both feel the same thing; and for the nostalgia of times spent together when you’re away.” – MELVV
Free at last from outside expectations, this former major label signee’s imminent move into the web3 space opens up a world of possibilities. The significance behind this move being simultaneously strategic and community-driven.
“After being a supporter of sound.xyz since the beginning, I’m stoked to be able to drop this record with them as a series of NFTs. This additional release will help fund future projects, as well as give the fans an extra collectible to hold on to,” he shares. While fans have certainly familiarized themselves with MELVV’s polished, pristine style over the past, “WIWY” unlocks a new era of creative potential in this beloved producer’s career.
Jeff Melvin, professionally known as MELVV, is a Brooklyn-based electronic producer and DJ. His songs have been streamed over 100 million times across platforms. Following the release of singles “Not Me” and “Lifeline” under indie label Majestic Casual, MELVV caught the attention of Atlantic Records, with whom he signed in 2017.
Several songs were released under Atlantic, including “Heatwave” with More Giraffes and “Nectarines” with Royal & The Serpent. A few tours accompanied the tracks, with MELVV opening for Petit Biscuit as well as headlining his own North American tour “Stress Relief.”
In 2021, MELVV became an independent artist again. Upon the return of live shows during the COVID pandemic, he began to make occasional DJ appearances with artists such as Jai Wolf and Pluko. Additionally, he hinted at upcoming releases for the project, including an impending EP. Past notable festival performances include Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Electric Forest. He has also played on North American tours with Jai Wolf, San Holo, Louis The Child, Big Gigantic, and Hippie Sabotage, among others.
