Morrissey Hospitalized Mid-Tour – Here’s What Really Happened

Morrissey has pulled the brakes on two of his North American tour dates after being hospitalized with a “severe sinusitis attack.” The iconic British singer had just played a gig at The Fox in Bakersfield before falling ill and needing treatment at Coronado Hospital in San Diego.

Because of the sudden health scare, shows scheduled for May 1 in San Diego and May 3 in Rancho Mirage had to be axed.

A statement posted to Morrissey’s official site confirmed the singer’s condition and explained that both cancelled dates are being rescheduled, not scrapped. “Following the show at The Fox in Bakersfield, Morrissey contracted a severe sinusitis attack and was treated at Coronado Hospital in San Diego,” the message read. It added, “Missed shows at Rancho Mirage and San Diego are not cancelled and now have new dates.”

Thankfully, the tour isn’t completely derailed. Morrissey is expected to return to the stage on May 5 at Tucson Centennial Hall in Arizona. The remaining US tour dates will roll on through May before the 64-year-old heads back across the pond for a much-anticipated Dublin show on May 31. After that, he’s hitting the O2 Academy in Glasgow for two nights in early June, then wrapping up the UK leg of the tour in Manchester on June 7 before heading across Europe, including stops in Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Italy.

This tour drama isn’t the only chaos Morrissey’s been dealing with. He’s also had a rough time with Capitol Records, who shelved his album Bonfire of Teenagers after signing it back in 2021. The project, which was originally set to drop in February 2023, included high-profile collaborators like Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, and Andrew Watt. There were even tracks with Miley Cyrus (who later dropped out) and members of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Iggy Pop.

Speaking about the album, Morrissey didn’t hold back his frustration: “Capitol signed it and didn’t release it, but they’re now prepared to give it back to me for a certain price.” He described the whole situation as “traumatic and quite sad,” especially since the album was “very much of the time” and deeply personal to him.

After all that, Morrissey finally announced in April 2024 that he had regained the rights to Bonfire of Teenagers and his 2014 LP World Peace Is None of Your Business. So while fans had to miss a couple of shows, there’s still new music and more performances coming, just as soon as he clears his sinuses.https://www.arcamax.com/entertainment/entertainmenttoday/s-3696523
