Mylen & Houndeye have spent several years writing music together, despite being on separate continents.

With Mylen based in New Zealand, heading up a residency on George FM (the country’s most popular electronic music station) and Houndeye based out of the USA, they’ve used their spheres to influence throughout their collaborative sounds – whilst bringing their culture’s drum & bass sounds together to present tracks like ‘Who You Are’ on Korsakov.

A dancefloor smasher, ‘Who You Are’ sees a continuation of Mylen & Houndeye’s relationship with Korsakov, and it’s out now. Make sure you grab a copy and you can check out the tracks the guys are currently spinning in their Spotify playlist below, which have since helped their progression within drum & bass.

Houndeye:

1. Metrik – Gravity

This one song inspired me to revisit making music and start Houndeye. It’s got the rocky, Pendulum vibes that made me fall in love with drum and bass in the first place, but with a more modern, dancefloor approach. Every element in the song serves a purpose and there’s no fat to be trimmed. It’s just a beautiful production and I don’t get sick of listening to it.

2. Sub Focus & Rudimental – Trouble (ft. Chronnix & Maverick Sabre) – Trouble

I was a fan of Sub Focus and Chronnix for a long time, and this coming together of talent was an instant win for me. Chronnix has such a beautiful voice that you just want to listen to all day, and his flow is incredible. I like that the tune isn’t packed with too much information and gives room for the vocals to shine.

3. NELSØN – Planet

This song takes you on a journey. There’s such a forward momentum with this tune, it’s constantly arriving somewhere new. I hope we see a lot more out of NELSØN.

4. Punctual x Kream – Want You Bad

I’m a sucker for simple chord progressions and good vocal melodies. I think KREAM really has this dialled in, in a tasteful way, which was part of my inspiration for ‘Who You Are’.

5. Wilkinson – I Believe

The vocal melody on this one is just outrageous. It taps right into your emotions, and I can listen in any mood and feel uplifted. I love the less-is-more approach to this tune as well.

Mylen:

1. Oliverse – Turbulence

I originally started my love of electronic music with dubstep, and Oliverse very quickly became one of my all time favourite artists. Seeing Oliverse take on dancefloor drum and bass with such clean production and understanding of tropes in the genre was so awesome to see.

2. Lee Mvtthews & Shockone – Thinkin About

Lee Mvtthews have been amazing friends and mentors throughout my whole production journey. I absolutely love this track, it was a step away from their normal sound and it has inspired me countless times to think out of the box when songwriting.

3. NCT – Afterlife

This song is just pure infectious joy. From the catchy vocal to the head banging halftime section, it always puts a mile on my face.

4. Lexurus – Crystalize

It’s almost funny to think about how many times I’ve opened a set with this tune. It is the perfect introduction to any dancefloor mix, with a long rising build and an energetic drop that gets the crowd chanting along.

5. Kanine – Escape

This track has been on repeat ever since it hit my inbox. The new wave of melancholic dancefloor and jump up hybrid sound is so pleasing to me. This track invokes all kinds of emotion while also hitting hard in the clubs, an absolute skill Kanine has in so many of his productions.
