Perry Wayne makes a massive return to NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud Vibrations imprint with the ever-evolving and aptly titled single “Freestyle.”
The track serves as a direct follow-up to his recent ‘Rise of the Enterprise’ EP, which marked his third project with the label.
For his latest creative export, Perry Wayne took a more laid-back approach to writing, allowing the creativity to flow. Reflected in the title and the overall direction, “Freestyle” moves fluently from cinematic and vibe-filled to all-out madness. Retro synths provide a mysterious sci-fi aesthetic in both the opening and breaks, while distorted guitar riffs and pitched-down rap vocals inject a menacing edge. The drops are devised for pure devastation, mixing screeching industrial sound design, destructive laser synths, and pounding bass punches. The pitched vocals serve to provide a human twist amidst the robotic chaos. “Freestyle” continues Perry Wayne’s conquest for dubstep domination with the level of lethal force he’s become synonymous with.
Perry Wayne reflects on the stream of consciousness creative process that brought the track to life saying, “I wrote ‘Freestyle’ just trying to freestyle around in my DAW, trying to be more creative and try things I haven’t before!”
The Dallas-based artist is currently on a run of North American tour dates, which include headline shows in Tampa, Salt Lake City, New Orleans, and more to be announced.
