New Jersey-based production pair Shanghai Doom are back on Bassrush Records with the exhilarating ‘Hyperspace’ EP.

The project follows the recently released lead single “Lightspeed,” featuring Detroit’s Dêtre. The four-track effort is an intergalactic expedition through bass that’s powered by brain-bending sound design and devastating low end.

Setting the stage comes “Dune,” a thrilling opener that welcomes listeners into a dimension of doom. The intro feels like waking up on a distant sand-covered planet. A dizzying melody creeps into focus as it slowly reveals a landscape of unfamiliar surroundings. Punchy percussion will have the heart pumping before being dropped into a gritty, bass-heavy barrage with thumping drums and menacing leads. Otherworldly chords create a sense of mesmerizing beauty that’s swept away by filthy sound design, reverberating low-end, and sci-fi flourishes.

“Lightspeed” is an experimental anthem that’s destined to decimate sound systems. Riddled with hypnotic melodies and glitchy twists, the track conjures a dystopian subterranean soundscape. Dêtre takes the spotlight with raspy, whispered rap tones that are pitched down and bent for a filthy feel. The lyrics expand on the spacey core deepening the thematic draw while adding an undeniable swagger. The bloodthirsty beat morphs from off-kilter hip-hop to a devastating dub marred with trippy oscillations, scratchy textures, shuddering low-end, and razor-sharp percussion. From subtle samples to brain-bending sound design, Shanghai Doom showcases their ever-expanding sonic superiority on this heart-racing heater.

Connecting with Florida-raised, Wisconsin-based spaceman Tron3x, Shanghai Doom welcomes listeners into the mothership with “Launchpad Hydraulics.” Trippy vocals are scattered throughout while cinematic sci-fi melodies and phaser keys transport listeners far from earth. The wobbly alien-like sound deepens the sonic identity, giving listeners an experience to remember within the deep, dark dubstep vessel. Equipped with blistering bass and metallic cuts, this one is a certified weapon from another galaxy.

Serving as the project’s closing track, “Viridian” is a mind-melting bass music masterpiece. Pushing speakers to their absolute maximum, the track is a bottom-end brute that’s as experimental as it is heavy. Ominous from the outset, the song feels like making contact with an alien species outside of our solar system. The tension and excitement are replaced by cavernous bass that will rattle the soul. Trippy percussion rolls drive the track forward as dark vocal samples drift in and out contorting around the grimey soundscape. Shanghai Doom channel sound design from across the constellations with an offering of its deepest and darkest corners. “Viridian” is a destroyer of worlds, swallowing anything in its path with undeniable force.

Sharing their excitement around their new EP, Shanghai doom shares: “Really stoked to be putting out the ‘Hyperspace EP’ on Bassrush. We’ve been working with them for a couple years now dropping compilation single tracks and it’s always been super dope. This EP gave us a chance to tell more of a story this time around. It’s a collection of songs representing a journey through space by way of sound. We also got to link up with Dêtre for vocals on ‘Lightspeed,’ and Tron3x for a second collab. Cant wait for you all to hear it!”

Hailing from New Jersey, production duo Shanghai Doom have found their niche in the experimental bass space with a multitude of brain-busting left-field tunes.
