Aldi to Open 800 New Stores by 2028 – Here’s the Full List of 2025 Locations Already Operating

Budget grocery giant Aldi is going big, and fast – the popular chain, known for being “cheaper than Publix,” has announced a massive expansion plan that will see 800 new stores opened across the U.S. by 2028. If you think that sounds far off, think again, 40 stores have already opened in 2025, and more are coming before summer.

The plan is part of Aldi’s five-year growth strategy launched in 2023, and it’s already making waves. With over 2,400 stores currently operating nationwide, Aldi has become the third-largest grocery retailer in the U.S. The move is being fueled in part by the company’s acquisition and planned conversion of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations in the Southeast.

Aldi recently debuted its first two new stores in the Las Vegas area, with two more on the way before the year ends. The Western U.S., along with the Northeast and Midwest, will be a major focus in this next expansion phase. In 2025 alone, Aldi plans to open more than 255 stores, making it the largest single-year expansion in its nearly 50-year U.S. history.

Here’s a list of all the Aldi stores that have opened in 2025 so far:

This explosive growth follows Aldi’s 2024 acquisition deal with Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys. The company plans to convert about 220 locations from those brands into Aldi stores by 2027.

Still, not every location is being absorbed. Aldi revealed in February 2025 that 170 unconverted stores will be sold to a consortium that includes C&S Wholesale Grocers and private investors.

For shoppers, this means even more access to Aldi’s famously low prices and no-frills shopping experience. Whether you’re looking for deep discounts on pantry essentials or trying to escape rising grocery prices elsewhere, Aldi’s expansion might just bring a new option to a neighborhood near you.

Bottom line: Aldi’s rapid growth shows no signs of slowing, and with hundreds more stores on the horizon, chances are your town could be next.
