Former DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Speaks Out About Toxicity In the Work Environment

Former DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Tony Okungbowa, has been the latest to add to the recent allegations about the show’s workplace being a toxic environment to work in.

While he isn’t the first, he is the most recent one to corroborate the claims being made by his co-workers. He had been with the show off and on for about 10 years from 2003-2006 and 2007-2013. Addressing the issue in an Instagram post-Okungbowa, known as DJ Tony said,
“While I am grateful for the opportunity it afforded me, I did experience and feel the toxicity of the environment and I stand with my former colleagues in their quest to create a healthier and more inclusive workplace as the show moves forward.”

DJ Tony left in 2013 and was replaced by Stephen “tWitch” Boss, who is currently in the role of being the onset DJ for the show.

As reported by People Magazine, in mid-July, BuzzFeed News published a report in which previous employees alleged a “toxic work environment” behind the scenes of the daytime talk show. One current and 10 former staffers spoke anonymously about their experiences on set, including claims of being penalized for taking medical leave, instances of racial microaggressions, and fear of retribution for raising complaints.

Ellen has since addressed the team in a memo and in a virtual meeting held earlier in the week promising to do her part in pushing herself and others “to learn and grow.”
