Nawed Khan is one of the biggest names in the booming Dance music scene in India. A resident with Submerge (India’s biggest artist management agency and dance music promoter), Nawed has constantly stayed ahead of the slow paced music scene in India. And he has managed to do so, by taking initiatives in order to stamp his mark further on the dance music scene here, as proven by his latest decision to launch his very own clothing line – Music Matters, in collaboration with Radical Paradox.

One of the biggest influences on Nawed Khan’s burgeoning career has been the Swedish maestro – Eric Prydz and it is quite interesting how Eric played a role in Nawed’s decision to launch his very own clothing line.

“Reach out and touch faith…”

The first time I came across this line was at Tomorrowland, back in 2013, where it was flashing on a giant LED wall behind Eric Prydz. These five words from Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” stayed with me well after my return to reality and back home in India. Very rarely have I felt the need to wear an emotion on a T-shirt before this, and this is where the idea of Music Matters seeded from. Music and lyrics deeply interlinked with that feeling — that indescribable feel — that floods through you when listening to an incredible, classic song; one that transcends decades.– Nawed Khan

There are some additional great designs available in the first collection under the ‘Music Matters’ clothing line in collaboration with Radical Paradox, and Nawed shares with us the inspiration behind them.

The words, “Music Matters” are from the eponymous Faithless single and I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve played the Axwell remix of this track. The composition and the lyrics have really inspired me over the years and I am so happy that something that I’ve started has these beautiful words at the helm of it.

“You told me to look much further, You told me to walk much more, You told me that music matters.”

“I Feel Love” is a song that was penned and sung by the inimitable Donna Summer and produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte in 1977. This track is considered to be one the greatest electronic dance music tracks of all time. Period. Hands down. Full-stop. Disco, and so much more at its finest. It was also, most likely, the first time an entire track was produced with the help of a synthesizer, moving away from the conventional acoustic orchestras that were used to produce dance music prior to that. It’s 40-years-old and it’s still played regularly by the biggest names in the DJ industry. The track exudes the same love and sensuality it did back in the day.

Shakedown’s “At night” … this track was a hit on it’s own but Kid Creme made it into a classic with his genre defining remix. Both Kid Creme and Junior Jack have produced some groundbreaking house music and everything they touch seems to turn to gold. It’s part of our collection because us, brothers (and sisters) of the Night Watch … we do feel much better At Night.

“Music Sounds Better With You.” This line didn’t even need a recap but the fact that it’s by Stardust (one half of Daft Punk), and that it precedes the Daft Punk we know today, makes it even more precious. It perfectly captures the feeling behind the euphoria of sharing the music you’re so passionate about with that someone you love.

“Music Is The Answer” by Celeda was recently rehashed by Hot Since 82, and this cult classic is a powerful statement for everyone who loves music.

The same can be said for Junior Jack’s mammoth hit, “Stupidisco – Make Your Move”. These songs represent the people that believe in dance music and know that it’s an escape from the ordinary.

“Feel Good Inc.” by Gorillaz and “Hey Boy Hey Girl” by Chemical Brothers; no list revolving around electronic music an be legit without the inclusion of these artists. The videos for both these songs are path breaking and if I may say so, are amongst the greatest dance music videos of all time.

Lastly, Eminem famously said “Nobody listens to Techno” in his chart topping track, “Without Me.” Well here we are in 2017 and techno is still as powerful as it was before Eminem saw success. Though Eminem was right in a way. You can’t just ‘listen’ to techno; techno is made for dancing.
