David Beckham To Receive Knighthood In King’s Birthday Honours

David Beckham is officially set to become “Sir David Beckham” as he receives a long-anticipated knighthood in The King’s Birthday Honours list next week.

The football legend turned 50 in May and will join the ranks of fellow British sporting icons like the late Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Beckham was previously awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth in 2003 for services to football. This time, however, the honour is much more prestigious, and long overdue, according to many fans and pundits. Last year, he narrowly missed out on the knighthood, with former England manager Gareth Southgate receiving it instead.

Married to Victoria Beckham since 1999, David shares four children with the former Spice Girl: Brooklyn (26), Romeo (22), Cruz (20), and Harper Seven (13). With this new honour, Victoria will officially become Lady Victoria Beckham, a formal title that comes with her husband’s new status.

David Beckham’s knighthood is not just about football. He’s got a solid track record of charitable work, a key factor in the decision-making process of the Honours Committee. Over the years, he’s been involved in various causes, including his long-standing role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, which he took on more than 20 years ago.

In 2024, Beckham was appointed an ambassador for The King’s Foundation. He called it an “inspiring” role and has been especially interested in the Foundation’s work in education and conservation. Speaking about the appointment, he said, “I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons.”

He also mentioned his personal interest in rural skills and countryside life. “Having developed a love for the countryside I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work.”

David’s visit to Highgrove Gardens included a conversation with King Charles about beekeeping, something both men are apparently passionate about.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Beckham also took the time to support the Chelsea Pensioners, showing his continued commitment to helping others.

With his influence both on and off the pitch, the former Premier League star has truly earned this recognition. After years of speculation and public support, the confirmation of Sir David Beckham will be made official in the upcoming honours list. And if you’re wondering, yes, it’s about time.

Beckham’s fans, friends, and family are expected to celebrate this honour, marking yet another chapter in an already remarkable life.
