Simone Inzaghi has officially left his position as Inter Milan manager by mutual agreement, ending a four-year spell at the helm of the Serie A giants.
The decision comes just days after Inter suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.
Inzaghi’s departure was confirmed following a meeting with club officials on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The announcement marks the end of an era in which the Italian coach delivered consistent domestic success and deep European runs, including two Champions League final appearances.
During his time at Inter, Inzaghi won six major trophies, including the coveted Second-Star Scudetto. He was praised for maintaining high performance levels and building a resilient squad that dominated Serie A at times. However, the recent Champions League loss against PSG seems to have accelerated discussions around his future.
In a heartfelt farewell statement, Inzaghi expressed gratitude to everyone at the club. “The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” he said. “Every day, my first and last thought was always about Inter. It was then reciprocated with professionalism and passion by the players, leaders, and every single one of the club’s employees.”
He continued, “The six trophies we won, including the Second-Star Scudetto, together with our Champions League journeys in 2023, and just a few days ago, are living proof of how much my work was supported by a shared understanding with my staff and every part of the club.”
Inzaghi ended his message with a nod to the fans: “I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together. I will never forget you.”
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta echoed the mutual respect behind the decision. “I would like to thank Simone Inzaghi for the work done, for the passion shown and also for the sincerity in the discussion that led to the common decision to separate our paths,” he said. “Only when we have fought together to achieve success day by day, can we have a frank dialogue like the one that happened.”
Speculation is already swirling about Inzaghi’s next move. The 49-year-old has been strongly linked to a managerial role at Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, though nothing has been confirmed.
As Inter begin the search for a new head coach, the club and its supporters will reflect on Inzaghi’s tenure as a period of both triumph and near-misses. His departure marks the end of a successful yet emotionally charged chapter in the club’s history.
