CD Projekt Red just gave a quick update on their long-awaited Witcher spin-off game, and for fans hoping for a release date, there’s no good news yet. ‘Project Sirius’ is still stuck in pre-production.
Originally announced in 2022 and rebooted in 2023, ‘Project Sirius’ hasn’t moved into full development. According to CDPR’s latest earnings report, the game remains in the early planning stage with no timeline for a playable version.
One key change is the merger of The Molasses Flood, originally leading the project, into CD Projekt Red’s main development team. CDPR says this is meant to keep the project aligned in terms of scope and direction. But that doesn’t mean the game’s anywhere near done.
Meanwhile, CDPR also shared updates on other Witcher projects, apart from the spin-off game. ‘The Witcher 4’ is still in development, moving forward at a steady pace, though few concrete details are available. As for the remake of the original Witcher game, that one is even further behind, still in the conceptual phase. It’s being handled by Fool’s Theory, but some of that team is temporarily assisting with ‘The Witcher 4’ to build shared assets and tools.
Basically, CDPR’s strategy right now is all about infrastructure. They’re investing time and resources in building the tech, pipelines, and tools needed to make all these projects come together efficiently in the future.
So if you were hoping to dive into a new Witcher experience anytime soon, don’t count on it. ‘Project Sirius’ is alive, but not kicking. It’s just a name on a long roadmap, and that road is still under construction.
