Oxen Butcher

Oxen Butcher burst onto the scene in January 2016 with his first track “Just Stay” which was given away as a free download and immediately supported by BBC Introducing in the UK.

His first official release, “Love and Happiness” EP on Enormous Tunes followed shortly after, reaching No. 1 in Chill Out charts on Beatport.

The title track of his next EP, “Walking On the Sun”, was featured on Tiesto’s AFTR:HRS Spotify playlist, and has been played over 600k times. Moving to Flashover Recordings, next came a remake of Nina Simone’s classic song “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” which was playlisted on Spotify by Tiesto, Nicky Romero, Sam Feldt and Ferry Corsten.

Now signed on an exclusive multi-track deal to Disco:wax in Denmark, the first release of 2018 “Good To My Soul” featuring Syon is the perfect way for this talented artist to move forward. 2018 looks set to be an exciting year for Oxen Butcher.

T.H.E – It is a pleasure for us to exchange some thoughts with you. To get things started can you give us a short insight on your musical background on how you got involved electronic music?

Oxen Butcher – In the home there was always 80’s music playing so that began the electronic love. Nothing like a bit of West End Girls, but the love of dance music came I think just like most kids, one might you find yourself in a club and think this is the place for me.

T.H.E – We really enjoyed your downtempo style, especially on the new single. Are there any artists or reasons that inspired you to take this direction?

Oxen Butcher -Listening to all sort of deep stuff Nils Frahm, Cubicolor, to more pop The 1975, M83, The XX

T.H.E – The release features Syon on vocals. What was the process to select each artist to feature on the track?

Oxen Butcher -This is a strange one, Syon was actually a top line writer who did a demo on an instrumental and I love it so much as it was, just had to have it as it was, he is really more an R&B singer and totally turned the track on its head.

T.H.E – What other producers are catching your eye at moment?

Oxen Butcher – I can’t stop playing George FitzGerald – Burns. Simply amazing!

T.H.E – What would be your advice to those who are planning on starting an electronic music career?

Oxen Butcher – Don’t give up the day job, it’s a hobby, and if you look at it that way you won’t get depressed.

T.H.E – Can you give us some insight on any new productions you’re working on?

Oxen Butcher – I’m working on several new projects at the moment. Two with Syon again, one a cover song and another original song. I’m also working on a a big re-work of a pretty big track, all coming soon on Disco:wax.

T.H.E – If you ever find time to unwind, what do you like to listen to?

Oxen Butcher – Currently i’m listening to Max Richter’s album, The Blue Notebook from 2004, getting a bit of culture in my life!

T.H.E – What would be your favorite track on rotation at the moment?

Oxen Butcher – George FitzGerald – Burns also really like the Chromeo Remix of Green Light.

Also love Adeline by Alt-J

T.H.E – What is your greatest passion apart from music?

Oxen Butcher – Running, Metal Detecting J and sun

T.H.E – What else can we expect from you in 2018?
