After canceling on one festival too many in the recent past, including Ultra Korea, Swedish House Mafia performed all guns blazing in Croatia at Ultra Europe just last night.
There was a fair bit of obvious hype surrounding the performance of the headlining act, but in the lead-up, the Swede’s decided to shine some light on a pressing matter.
Taking to social media hours before their performance, the Swedish House Mafia socials in addition to Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello’s individual handles tweeted the trending hashtag, #JusticeForRocky. This went on to create a major buzz after which they tweeted a screenshot of an unreleased SHM x A$AP Rocky track seemingly titled “Frankenstein.”
In the light of Rocky’s imprisonment in Stockholm, Sweden after getting into a street brawl and seemingly having acted in self-defense, the industry has stood strong in support of the rapper. From petitions to artists boycotting and canceling performances in Sweden, the community is standing together in his support. The latest artists to voice their support for him against the Swedish authorities and their unjust treatment of the rapper, have been none other than fellow natives of the very country – Swedish House Mafia.
After teasing the collaboration, the trio used the massive Ultra Europe stage to play their unreleased collaboration along with the stark visuals of “#JUSTICEFORROCKY.”
For fans who’ve been waiting for years for new music from the trio, this might not have been exactly what they were expecting. A hard hitting rap track was not what most of us thought we would be in to hear from Swedish House Mafia. But at the same time the track is in line with their other collaborations from the past such as “Miami to Ibiza” with Tinie Tempah.
“Frankenstein” will be the third ID we have so far when it comes to new SHM music, though all still unreleased. The other two include a track probably called “Underneath it all” which was one of the first ID’s audiences caught from their initial Stockholm shows, and the other is potentially called “It Gets Better” which was their intro ID.
