For a while, all anyone could talk about was Benny Blanco’s proposal to Selena Gomez.
Once the deets of their special moment was shared with the rest of the world, fans had a lot to say about their pivotal relationship milestone. While some fans gushed over how adorable the moment was, others were quick to criticize over little details. Particularly, the addition of Taco Bell incorporated into the once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Benny Blanco got down on one knee during a picnic outing with Selena Gomez, with the fast food meal boxes sprawled out on the blanket. The moment has since been labeled by some more dark-humored fans as the “Taco Bell proposal,” which received backlash for the out-of-place fast food boxes. (When we envision romantic meals, Taco Bell doesn’t exactly spring to mind.)
Benny Blanco Defended His ‘Taco Bell Proposal’ To Selena Gomez
But Benny Blanco was quick to defend his proposal from the haters. He explained in a Rolling Stone interview that the addition of Taco Bell signifies how low key he and Selena Gomez are as a couple. Gomez and Blanco don’t need all the flashy and expensive things, so long as they have each other’s company.
“I think people think we’re like, this thing in Rolls Royces,” the music producer said, referring to the public’s expectations of their high-profile relationship. “We literally play, like, N64 and order Domino’s,” Benny continued. “We’re just living our life every day”.
The Music Mogul Got Real About How ‘Hard’ It Was To Propose To The ‘Come And Get It’ Singer
As is the case for many proposals, the partner getting down on one knee might have to tell a little white lie here and there, in order to prepare for the special event.
Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez were no exception. According to the celebs, Blanco had to lie to Gomez, by telling her that the two of them were participating in a promo for their upcoming album, “I Said I Love You First.” But in actuality, the music producer was preparing to seal the deal with a million dollar diamond ring for the love of his life.
But preparing for the proposal was no cakewalk for the music mogul. Since Benny Blanco is one to tell Selena Gomez everything, he says he felt weird about keeping the proposal from her for so long. “First of all, getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world,” Blanco said while sitting down alongside Gomez on The Jimmy Fallon Show. “Right before you tell someone you’re gonna be married to them forever, they’re like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me.’ It’s the hardest thing in the world. It’s so hard!” He continued, adding, “I tell her everything, so she was just upset with me because the day before, I was, like, making bad lies.”
