Chrissy Metz is opening up about what truly makes her feel good about herself.
Known for her role in “This Is Us”, the 44-year-old actress has shared that her biggest drive isn’t just to be liked or loved, but rather the satisfaction she gets from helping others. While many of us are motivated by external validation, Chrissy believes that what matters most is how we feel about ourselves.
In a recent interview with People, Chrissy explained how as humans, we all crave to be liked, respected, and validated. “I want you to know that I’m smart. I want to be validated. I want you to like me,” she said. But despite this natural desire for approval, it’s the good deeds she does for others that give her the most joy and confidence. Whether it’s lending a helping hand to family and friends or giving back in a meaningful way, Chrissy says those actions help her feel like she’s doing something right, regardless of what anyone else might think.
“The things I do that make me feel good about myself,” Chrissy shared, “supersede what anybody thinks or says about me.” She believes that true confidence is about trusting yourself, and each time she helps someone or does something positive, it builds that trust and self-assurance.
Despite her confidence, Chrissy is no stranger to self-doubt. Even with all her success, she admits there are still moments when she struggles with anxiety. “There are certainly times when I’m like, ‘Girl, what are you doing? I don’t think you got this!'” she confessed. But it’s her journey through those doubts and her focus on doing good that keeps her grounded.
In addition to her acting career, Chrissy has also ventured into writing children’s books. Her latest book, When I Talk to God, I Talk About Feelings, reflects her passion for helping kids understand and express their emotions. Chrissy says that she was inspired by her own experience of not always feeling seen or heard as a child. She wants children today to feel validated and acknowledged. “Kids want to feel seen and heard,” Chrissy noted. “We had to talk about feelings because even as adults, we don’t know how to.”
With a deep love for art and a personal connection to her writing, Chrissy is hopeful to write more children’s books in the future. She’s got big plans, and with the same heart that fuels her personal growth, we’re sure she’ll keep inspiring us all.
