David Beckham Launches UNICEF Campaign Ahead of 50th Birthday

David Beckham is making waves with his new UNICEF campaign to support vulnerable girls around the world.

Ahead of his 50th birthday on May 2, 2025, the former footballer and long-time UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador has launched this global initiative to protect young girls from child marriage, female genital mutilation, and other forms of violence.

The campaign, which kicked off on April 15, 2025, is part of a series of events leading up to Beckham’s milestone birthday. In a heartfelt statement, he shared his concern about the global funding crisis, which is disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable children, particularly girls. Beckham emphasized the urgent need for support, noting that many girls across the globe face unimaginable challenges.

The funds raised through the David Beckham UNICEF campaign will go towards protecting girls from these dangers and also giving them a platform to share their stories. David has offered his social media channels to spotlight these young women, allowing them to take over his accounts and highlight their efforts within their communities.

In an Instagram video, David reflected on the significance of turning 50 and the opportunities he’s had throughout his career. He noted that his experiences with UNICEF, particularly his work with children living in tough situations, have deeply impacted him. As a father of four, he is especially aware of how lucky his family is to have access to education and healthcare – opportunities many children around the world can only dream of.

He recalled his first visit to a women’s center in Thailand 25 years ago, marking a turning point in his commitment to helping vulnerable children. “The world is a very difficult place for children – especially girls,” David said. These words have become a driving force behind his work with UNICEF over the past two decades.

Beckham’s connection to UNICEF dates back to 2005 when he was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador. In 2025, he will mark the 20th anniversary of this role, as well as the 10th anniversary of the 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund, which has already supported over one million children in countries such as Nepal, Indonesia, and Djibouti.

To kick off his 50th birthday celebrations, Beckham hosted an exclusive black-tie event at Cipriani, his and Victoria Beckham’s favorite Miami restaurant. The event brought together an array of family members and celebrity friends, including Eva Longoria, Tom Brady, Lionel Messi, and Shaquille O’Neal.

Beckham was joined at the event by three of his children: Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. His eldest son Brooklyn and daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz were notably absent. The guest list also included other sporting legends like Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, as well as Hollywood stars like Justin Theroux and Marc Anthony.

David Beckham’s UNICEF campaign and his ongoing commitment to global philanthropy reflect a powerful message: even after 20 years of impactful work, the fight to support vulnerable children, particularly girls, continues.
