Phil Robertson, the face and spirit of Duck Dynasty, has died at 79, months after his family revealed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
On May 25, his children and grandchildren took to social media with heartfelt tributes, confirming the reality star’s passing and honoring the impact he had on their lives and the world.
Phil’s son, Jase Robertson, shared the sad news on X, writing, “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed, but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!” It was a short but deeply emotional tribute that quickly spread across the internet as fans grieved along with the family.
His granddaughter, Sadie Robertson Huff, posted on Instagram with a touching series of photos of their family over the years, highlighting the love and legacy Phil left behind. Meanwhile, Phil’s son Willie and daughter-in-law Korie Robertson shared a joint Instagram statement: “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord.” They thanked fans for their prayers and support and mentioned that while they’re holding a private service for now, they plan to share details soon about a public celebration of his life.
Phil’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis was first revealed during the December 6 episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast. Jase explained that Phil was in the early stages, but the disease accelerated rapidly. “It’s causing problems with his entire body,” he said. “He’s just not doing well. He’s really struggling.” A few months later, on April 2, Jase updated listeners again and said his father was “not good,” adding, “We’re making him comfortable, and we’re doing the best we can. I think that’s just what you do.”
It’s been a painful few months for the family, and this final goodbye comes as a heavy blow. But they’ve leaned on their faith and each other, just like they always have, on and off camera.
Phil became a household name through Duck Dynasty, which aired on A&E from 2012 to 2017 and ran for 11 seasons. The series followed Phil and his wife, Kay; their sons, Jase, Willie, and Jep; and their extended family as they managed their Louisiana-based business, Duck Commander. The company, founded by Phil back in 1972, started with a single patented duck call and eventually grew into a multimillion-dollar empire.
The show’s success made the Robertsons famous, but it was their faith, close family bond, and down-home honesty that kept people watching. Even after Duck Dynasty wrapped, the family kept the momentum going with spinoffs like Going Si-Ral, Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty, At Home with the Robertsons, and Duck Family Treasure.
And the dynasty isn’t done yet. A&E announced earlier this year that the family would be returning to the screen with Duck Dynasty: The Revival, expected to premiere this summer. Phil won’t be there physically, but his legacy will clearly still be at the center of it all.
Born and raised in Louisiana, Phil’s life was rooted in family and faith. He married Kay when she was just 17 after she got pregnant with their first son. What started as a simple family life built around duck hunting and prayer became one of the most successful reality TV stories of the last decade.
Over the years, Phil wasn’t just a TV personality, he was a father figure to many who watched him lead with conviction. Even as his health declined, his values stayed strong, and that spirit will continue through his children, grandchildren, and the fans who loved him.
As the Robertson family grieves in private, they’re also planning a larger celebration that will allow the public to honor Phil’s life. His legacy, of faith, family, and building something from nothing, will live on far beyond the screen.
