Heather Rae El Moussa and Christina Haack are officially in their unexpected friendship era, and yes, it’s real.
While most reality TV fans would expect some behind-the-scenes tension between a woman and her husband’s ex-wife, the opposite is happening here. In fact, Heather says filming The Flip Off with Christina not only brought them closer, but it also helped them understand each other on a totally different level. And she’s even down to work with her again.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Heather revealed that her connection with Christina has grown beyond just co-parenting logistics. “I think friendship is a very special thing, like being a friend. And I think we’re getting there, right? We’re opening up to each other about things. We help each other through things,” she shared. “We talk about personal things with each other and guide each other through things. So our friendship is developing even more and more.”
If you’ve been following their dynamic, you know Heather married Tarek El Moussa in 2021 and welcomed their son Tristan in early 2023. She also became stepmom to his two kids, 14-year-old Taylor and 9-year-old Braydon, from his previous marriage Christina. So, naturally, Heather and Christina had to interact regularly for the sake of the kids. But until recently, those interactions were mostly about school stuff, sports schedules, and discipline, never anything too personal.
That changed while filming The Flip Off, their new house-flipping reality show, which gave them a lot more time together. According to Heather, working so closely helped them bond over shared experiences, especially as moms. “It did [surprise me] because we talk about the kids. It’s school, school stuff, homework, discipline, and sports, but then, we don’t know each other. We didn’t know each other on a deeper level of who we are as individuals,” Heather said. “Filming a show together and being around each other more outside of just the children got us to know each other on more of a friendship level.”
That new level of closeness also made for some pretty entertaining behind-the-scenes moments. Heather noted there’s a lot of “trash talk” between Christina and Tarek on the show, and while she doesn’t jump in much, she doesn’t mind ganging up on her husband when it’s all in fun. “There’s always trash talk with Tar and Christina, not so much me. I mean, it’s fun to gang up on my husband. He’s just easy, and he has fun with it.”
What’s even better? Heather is totally open to doing more seasons of The Flip Off, and she’s excited at the idea of working with Christina again. “It’s an incredible show. We are very hands-on. We are executive producers. We helped create the show. We starred in the show.”
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Heather also shared that she and Christina now celebrate each other not just as co-parents, but as fellow moms who genuinely get along. “Christina and I, we’ve built a friendship throughout The Flip Off, and we co-parent together,” she said. “Mother’s Day is coming up, which is exciting. We get to celebrate each other as mothers.”
In a world where most people expect reality TV to thrive off drama and division, Heather and Christina are flipping the script, literally and emotionally. Their journey from civil co-parents to actual friends proves that even in the wild world of Hollywood exes and blended families, people can grow, change, and find common ground.
