Lizzo’s boyfriend – Myke Wright, isn’t just her romantic partner, he’s her best friend, too.
The “Good As Hell” hitmaker recently got candid about her relationship with Myke Wright and shared how their years of friendship laid the perfect foundation before they ever got romantic. During her appearance on ‘Therapuss with Jake Shane,’ Lizzo opened up about how she and Myke met years ago working together on the MTV show Wonderland, where she was the “music girl” and he was the “comedy guy.”
Talking about their bond, Lizzo said, “We had this crazy bond for years. I do love that we were friends first, so that means we can talk about anything.” She described Myke as her “best friend” and said she didn’t really have male friends like him, despite being surrounded by men in the music industry. What made it different was how open and honest their connection felt right from the beginning.
The friendship-to-lovers story is something Lizzo knows many people dream of. She laughed with the host, saying, “That is low-key like a fantasy, right? It’s like a ‘Book-Tok’ dream to be like, ‘Oh my God, he was my best friend.’”
Lizzo confirmed her relationship with Myke Wright three years ago, and since then, she’s spoken several times about how their connection grew stronger after doing a lot of inner work on herself. Back in 2022 on The Howard Stern Show, she admitted that when they first started dating, she still didn’t fully believe she was lovable and didn’t feel secure in where she stood professionally.
She said, “[We are] not playing any games with each other anymore. We’re very much locked in.” That didn’t happen overnight though. Lizzo was honest about the emotional barriers she used to have. “Even if a person came around that I was googly gaga about,” she said, “I had these wild defenses up that made it almost impossible for a true, intimate relationship to occur.”
Now, Lizzo’s in a place where she feels safe, open, and honest with someone who’s known her long before the fame and awards. That level of trust doesn’t come easy, especially in an industry like music where relationships can often feel fast and fleeting. With Myke, it’s different. The years of friendship helped her shed the walls she built around her heart.
Fans have always loved Lizzo’s transparency about self-love and emotional growth, and her relationship with Myke is just another extension of that journey. It’s not just a celebrity romance, it’s a slow burn friendship that turned into something solid, real, and lasting.
Whether it’s on a podcast or a radio show, Lizzo’s been clear about how important it was for her to love herself before truly letting love in. And now that she has, she’s not afraid to say just how good it feels to be with someone who’s always been in her corner.
