Meghan Markle is getting brutally honest about being a mom, and it’s nothing like the picture-perfect dream she once had in her head.
On the latest episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, admitted that motherhood just isn’t what she “envisioned.” Laughing through the reality check, she told her listeners, “I had a whole vision. You fast forward… it was not the way I envisioned it.”
Now 43, Meghan shares two children, Prince Archie, born in May 2019, and Princess Lilibet, born in June 2021, with her husband, Prince Harry. Their first child arrived while they were still working members of the British royal family living in the UK. But by early 2020, the couple stepped down from royal duties and eventually moved to the U.S., settling into a $14 million estate in Montecito, California, where they’ve tried to create a more private life for their family.
During the podcast episode, Meghan revealed that she had “always wanted to be a mom” and once imagined herself as the ultimate multitasking woman, confidently giving speeches with a baby on her hip, balancing motherhood and ambition like a boss. But life had other plans. She shared that there were “a lot of external things happening” during both her pregnancies and in the early days of raising her kids, which changed everything.
Though Meghan has mostly shielded Archie and Lilibet from the public eye, she’s recently started sharing more about what life is like behind closed doors. Back in April, she gave fans a glimpse of her morning routine with the kids, which includes making breakfast and doing school drop-offs, just like any other mom juggling a thousand things before 9 a.m.
On Mother’s Day, she took it a step further, posting a rare and heartwarming photo of herself holding both Archie and Lilibet. The caption melted hearts: “To these two gems, who still attempt to climb ‘mama mountain,’ smother me with kisses, and make every day the most memorable adventure, being your mom is the greatest privilege of my life.”

The former Suits actress, who’s since launched the lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, uses her podcast to share not just business advice but raw and personal reflections. Her honest take on parenting is resonating with listeners who are tired of the filtered, Instagram-perfect version of motherhood.
Since moving to the States, Meghan has been slowly rebuilding her public image, one that’s less royal and more real. She’s returned to Instagram and now occasionally shares family moments with her growing U.S. audience. And while her life still comes with massive media attention, it’s clear she’s trying to do things on her own terms now.
Between raising her kids, running her lifestyle brand, and making space to speak her truth through her podcast, Meghan is doing what many moms strive for, balancing chaos, ambition, and love while admitting that, yeah, it’s messy and never quite how you thought it would be. But even through the unexpected, she’s found her purpose.
And that’s probably the most relatable thing Meghan’s ever said.
