Michael Keaton Reunites With Robert De Niro After 27 Years for Netflix Thriller

Michael Keaton joins Robert De Niro in The Whisper Man, an upcoming Netflix crime thriller that’s already turning heads thanks to its powerhouse cast.

Keaton’s role might be brief, but it’s a big deal-it marks the first time he and De Niro have shared the screen since Jackie Brown back in 1997.

Directed by James Ashcroft and produced under the Russo brothers’ AGBO banner, The Whisper Man is based on Alex North’s chilling 2019 novel. The story follows a widowed crime writer who teams up with his estranged father-played by De Niro-to find his abducted son. Along the way, they uncover eerie connections to a decades-old case involving a terrifying serial killer known as The Whisper Man.

Michael Keaton, now 73, will pop in for a cameo, though his appearance is being hyped as a memorable moment in the film. He’s joined by an impressive lineup that includes John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Acston Luca Porto, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan.

The screenplay is written by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, while Joe and Anthony Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco are leading production duties. Kassee Whiting and Marcus Viscidi will executive produce. The movie is set to begin filming on the U.S. East Coast this spring.

This cameo comes on the heels of Keaton’s return in Beetlejuice, the legacy sequel to his iconic 1988 role. In that film, he teamed up with Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe to dive back into the Netherworld. Keaton made it clear during press rounds that while Beetlejuice is still very much a wild force, he wasn’t meant to dominate the new film like he did the original.

Speaking to GQ, Keaton explained, “You can’t load it up with Beetlejuice-that’ll kill it. He’s more part of the storyline this time, not the one driving it.”

He described the ghostly character as more of a chaotic “it” than a person, calling him “a force” with that same “stupid male energy” that made him so hilariously unhinged the first time around.

Are you hyped to see Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro reunite in The Whisper Man?
