Paul Rudd’s Most Embarrassing Moment Might Just Make You Love Him Even More

Paul Rudd might be the ultimate nice guy in Hollywood, but even he isn’t immune to a seriously awkward moment, like flashing the entire audience during a live play.

Yep, the 56-year-old actor recently shared a hilarious and very revealing story about an onstage wardrobe malfunction that left him red-faced (and his privates exposed) during a performance of The Shape of Things, where he starred alongside Rachel Weisz.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, Rudd described the moment that had the audience laughing for all the wrong reasons. He said he was lying on a bed in boxer shorts and a T-shirt during the show when he noticed the crowd starting to chuckle mid-scene. Confused, he soon realized the cause: “I had my leg up and my balls were hanging out, which is worse than actually, penis – it’s like, just your balls,” he told the hosts.

Will Arnett, one of the podcast’s co-hosts, couldn’t stop laughing, even joking that the play’s poster should’ve just been Rudd’s balls hanging out of his shorts. Rudd owned the story with his usual charm and self-deprecating humor, proving why fans love him even more when he’s completely unfiltered.

Despite the momentary exposure, Rudd isn’t dwelling on it. In fact, he sees honesty and humility as part of his everyday vibe. Talking to WSJ Magazine, he said he doesn’t think being called “nice” is a big deal. “Just try and be polite. Try and respect other people’s time. Show up on time. Don’t be a d*******, and then that’s it,” he explained. Simple, really.

Beyond his unexpected theatre flash, Rudd is still going strong in Hollywood. He’ll soon return to the big screen as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Of course, Marvel being Marvel, he’s sworn to absolute secrecy about the project. Joking with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Rudd said, “There is nothing I can tell you. It’s not like military secrets. It’s Marvel, Jimmy.”

Between spilling secrets (sort of) and spilling out of his boxers onstage, Rudd is clearly still one of the most down-to-earth stars around. And let’s be real, only Paul Rudd could turn an accidental flash into a funny, fan-favorite story.
