Rachel Zegler Opens Up About Struggles Finding Sisterhood in Hollywood
Rachel Zegler is searching for real sisterhood in an industry that often pits women against each other. The 23-year-old actress, best known for her roles in West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, revealed in a new interview with Allure that forming close female friendships in Hollywood hasn’t been easy.
“I’m Always Looking for a Sister”
“All I’m ever really looking for in this business is a sister,” Zegler shared. “And they’re not always easy to find.” She pointed out how women in entertainment are often taught to see each other as competition, a mindset she actively rejects. “I believe in championing my friends and coworkers, whether we’re close or not,” she added.
Zegler even has a lighthearted way of handling rivalry: “The second there’s any intimidation or competition, just put on ‘Girl, so confusing’ by Charli XCX and talk it out.”
Reports of Distance Between Zegler and Gal Gadot
While Zegler emphasized her belief in female support, a source told PEOPLE that she and her Snow White co-star, Gal Gadot, “have nothing in common.” The source cited differences in their political views and lifestyles, noting that Gadot, 39, is a mother of four while Zegler is still at the start of her Hollywood journey.
Another insider claimed, “Gal enjoyed filming but was annoyed by the drama surrounding the movie. She and Rachel were fine on set, but they’re not friends.”
Finding Support from Other Hollywood Women
Despite her difficulties forging connections in the industry, Zegler has found support from other leading women. She named Jameela Jamil as a mentor, calling her “like a big sister.” She also credited Ariana Grande for reaching out unexpectedly to offer guidance, saying, “She is so deeply kind and has been through so much in the public eye.”
Veteran actresses Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, who worked with Zegler in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, have also stepped into protective roles. “They have been my keepers in all of this,” Zegler said. “I feel very held by them.”
Breaking the Cycle of Competition
Zegler is determined to build a different kind of environment in Hollywood, one that encourages solidarity rather than rivalry. “There is room for all of us, no matter what anybody else will have you think,” she emphasized.
